Real Estate Reporter, Curbed
Curbed, New York Magazine’s pioneering site covering real estate, architecture, design, and urbanism, is looking for an experienced and ambitious real estate reporter to join our team and cover the people, deals, developments and trends shaping the city’s real estate market and neighborhoods.
The ideal candidate is a strong reporter and writer with a network of industry sources and an insider’s perspective on the deals and developments shaping the city, and the ability to write compelling stories about complex real estate topics and developments. The reporter should have a deep knowledge of New York City’s residential and commercial real estate markets, housing, neighborhoods, and the business of real estate.
What You’ll Do
Cover breaking news and report on tips related to real estate
Report exclusives based on sourcing and original reporting
Track real estate transactions, property listings, development proposals, sales records, rental reports, financing, and other market activity
Analyze public records, real estate databases, government data, company filings, market reports, and other datasets to uncover news and trends.
Pitch news and feature story ideas that make sense of the real estate headlines and uncovers the real estate angle in national and major stories
Write a mix of short and longer-lead stories every week
Collaborate with editors, photo and art teams, and other newsroom colleagues to publish and circulate stories.
What We’re Looking For
At least 2-5 years of reporting experience, covering real estate, housing, business, and related beats
A strong track record of original published journalism
Excellent reporting skills, including outreach, interviewing, research, and fact-checking
Comfort working with public records, interpreting market data, databases, and other research tools.
Has extensive sources within the real estate industry and New York City business community and knows how to cultivate new sources and follow-up with contacts
Understands New York City neighborhoods and their characteristics in terms of housing and building types and neighborhood characteristics
Is interested in the narrative possibilities of buying/selling real estate, controversies and conflicts
Has a proven ability to research and analyze real estate databases and records
Can turn stories around quickly
Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines
Ability to work well with an editor and a team
PAY TRANSPARENCY
The salary range listed below represents the minimum and maximum base pay for this position at the time of this posting. Final salary offered to the candidate selected for the position will be based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience.
