About the Role The SACC Program Director provides strategic and operational leadership across Space to Thrive's three school-age child care sites. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, this role is responsible for program quality, site director supervision, curriculum and staff development, family engagement, and day-to-day operational follow-through. This is a leadership role for someone who brings both big-picture vision and practical follow-through. You will build trusting relationships with staff and families while holding high expectations for program quality. You have direct experience working with school-age children and have led or supervised a team in a professional setting. Key Responsibilities Program Leadership & Quality • Provide direct supervision, coaching, and support to three site directors (Raymond, Primary, and Manchester locations) • Conduct regular site visits to observe programming, support staff, and connect with families • Conducting trainings and professional development for all school age staff • Facilitate weekly meetings with program staff to ensure cross-program continuity • Guide all sites toward best practices in social and emotional learning, child-led play, and nature-based programming. Build shared understanding and consistent implementation across the program • Ensure all sites implement inclusive practices and create welcoming environments for children of all abilities, backgrounds, and needs • Verify compliance with licensing requirements and COA accreditation standards across all SACC sites • Completing comprehensive evaluations of staff Staff Development & Culture • Lead with clarity and confidence: make sound decisions, provide direct guidance and feedback, and create the conditions for staff to do their best work • Provide direct supervision and coaching to site directors, supporting their growth while holding clear expectations for performance and follow-through • Foster a collaborative team culture where staff feel supported, heard, and accountable to shared goals • Support hiring, onboarding, and retention of site and program staff • Design and facilitate professional development with an emphasis on social-emotional learning, outdoor education, and child-led programming Operations & Systems • Oversee operational follow-through across sites, including scheduling, enrollment, and incident response • Collaborate with the Administrative Director on data systems, reporting, and operational infrastructure • Contribute to budget planning and stewardship of program resources • Build on foundational curriculum to support social and emotional learning & nature based education • Implement evidence-based assessments to provide data of program efficacy • Ensure each site has materials needed for curriculum, approach to play • Communication with RSU14 District • Space reservations • School principals, maintenance staff, school recourse officers, etc. Leadership Team Participation • Serve as an active member of Space to Thrive's administrative leadership team • Partner with the Executive Director on cross-program initiatives, organizational strategy, and culture • Represent Space to Thrive in community and partner relationships • Collaborate with Development Director to support grant applications and reporting processes Required Qualifications • Bachelor's degree in Education, Child Development, Human Services, Early Childhood, or related field • 3+ years of experience in school age child care or a related youth-serving setting, with at least 1–2 years in a supervisory role • Strong coaching and communication skills with the ability to build trust with staff, families, and community partners • Organized, dependable, and able to manage multiple priorities across sites • Commitment to reflective practice, continuous improvement, and a positive program culture • Exceptional communication skills including written and verbal; ability to navigate challenging dynamics with professionalism and tact Preferred Qualifications • Maine Director credential or equivalent • Experience with multi-site program management • Familiarity with Maine's child care subsidy systems, licensing requirements, or COA/QRIS standards • Experience working with children with special needs, challenging behaviors, and social & emotional skills defecits • Experience with state systems including the affordability program, Maine Roads to Quality, ECE for ME, etc.
