As our team has grown, we have an opportunity for a Principal Mechanical Engineer , to join our building services team in Manchester, where you will lead and develop an enthusiastic and committed team of Engineers and Technicians to deliver high-quality output on projects and support the Associates in the day-to-day management of the local Mechanical Services team.
This team works across various sectors and experience in one of these sectors would be preferred.
About You
As a Principal Mechanical Engineer – Building Services, you are expected to have a strong track record in one or, ideally, multiple sectors that BakerHicks operates in. You will be a Chartered Mechanical Building Services Engineer with experience in managing medium-sized projects or managing packages on large projects.
You’ll lead and develop an enthusiastic and committed team of Engineers and Technicians to deliver high quality output on projects and support the Associates in day-to-day management of the local Mechanical Services team. Client care and repeat business is crucial to BakerHicks success, so you’ll need to be able to develop and nurture relationships with our clients (both internal and external)
Key Purpose
Design and specify all aspects of Mechanical Services in accordance with current guidelines, standards, regulations and project deliverables
Management of small project teams, including recruitment, resourcing, professional development and engagement to deliver high quality output to all projects
Management of Mechanical Services involvement in projects, including time, cost, quality and resources, client relationship management and delivery
Monitor and champion quality and compliance controls within local teams and projects
Responsibilities
Provide engineering services design and consultancy work on behalf of BakerHicks under the direction of the line manager or project lead.
Produce design deliverables (including drawings, specifications and reports), site surveys, construction stage duties, client liaison with members of design/construction teams, project management, costing and ensure progress against the project brief
Check calculations and production of detailed drawings to ensure engineering designs meet appropriate quality and compliance controls, project brief and customer requirements.
Time, cost, quality, resource and delivery management including communication with the department and management to ensure that resource and project requirements are clearly understood and met.
Contribute to the preparation of enquiry plans, tender reviews, fee estimate sheets, scopes of work and change controls.
Monitoring of project fee spend and deliver commercial objectives including invoicing and Cost Value Report management.
