Description
To enable us to fully deliver our projects we are looking for an innovative and passionate Principal Design Engineer - Protection & Control to work on projects from initial concept and feasibility through to procurement specification, construction and commissioning. The successful candidate will have the chance to work on a wide variety of EHV (up to 400kV) substation design aspects, and our project program facilitates the roll-out of substation construction works from 11kV up to 400kV, along with providing support for increasing customer connection activity.
Job Description Lead protection design engineer: -
• Lead a team of 2-3 engineers and CAD.
• Maintain project momentum and deliver required milestones.
• Liaise with project managers and the Head of Engineering.
• Provide status updates for each project.
• Review and approve design deliverables prepared by senior engineers.
• Oversee annual performance appraisals and development activities for team members, and report to the Head of Engineering.
What we’re looking for
• HNC level qualification in Electrical Engineering with proven experience in a related engineering discipline;
• The ability to technically assess and solve issues, with a thorough understanding of the technical requirements of the protection aspects of the projects;
• Experience all voltages of transmission voltage plant and equipment is advantageous;
• Ideally experience in preparing and manipulating engineering drawings, using computer-aided design tools (e.g. AutoCAD) as this is the main tool we use;
• Be willing to travel and participate in site meetings throughout the UK when necessary.
Technical skills but not limited to:
• Taking lead on Meetings for protection design part for each substation
• Develop Key line diagram -Concept (even when no protection design of concept is given from client side)
• Settings calculations
• CT/VT selection and calculation
• Wiring diagram
• Termination diagram
• Battery sizing
• Meeting with clients and working with multiple standards
• In depth knowledge working principle of each IED
• Liaising with DNOs and their side of design. (Interface design)
• Finalizing protection panel GA drgs etc
• Simple electrical calculation which are required to check Specifications of equipment’s
• Checking supplier drgs
• Liaising with other disciplines
• Selecting relays
• Last but not least sometimes we work without client specification, as most of our client don’t know what the want , so someone should be able to drive the design.
• Sometimes will have to go to site to troubleshoot any issues with commissioning engineer.
• Testing of IED, visiting Panel supplier factory
• Multicore sheets schedule
Your projects will include:
• HVAC substation primary and secondary design and HVDC Offshore Windfarm projects
Your role will give you opportunities to:
• Perform work in accordance with the agreed budget and schedule with little supervision.
• Independently perform the tasks necessary to complete primary design elements for engineering works to standard and compliant regulations.
• Coordinate across project disciplines, external subcontractors and remote offices such that technical risks are identified and mitigated, and all statutory and regulatory requirements are met.
