Department: Institue of Neurophysiology Description: The laboratory of Professor Christian Madry at the Institute of Neurophysiology, Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Germany is offering a Postdoc position (m/f/d) to study the role of microglia in neurodegeneration. The project: As the brain’s innate immune cells, microglia are key players involved in virtually all neurological diseases. Our lab’s research focus is on the role of microglial ion channels and receptors, aiming to understand how they regulate microglial function in the healthy and diseased brain. Here, we aim to explore the importance of specific ion channel-dependent mechanisms under neurodegenerative conditions in Alzheimer’s disease (AD). This project aligns to our multidisciplinary approach comprising animal models, human specimen and primary cell culture to investigate the functional properties of disease-affected microglia and their implications in pathophysiological features of AD, such as amyloidosis, neuroinflammation and neuronal dysfunction. About you: We are looking for highly motivated candidates with a background in glial neurobiology or neurophysiology who are committed to working focused and independently, meeting the following criteria: • PhD in the life sciences (neuroscience, biology or a related subject) • Expertise in electrophysiology (patch clamp) or imaging techniques (multi-photon, confocal) • Experience in brain slice preparations or brain cell culture techniques • Experience in immunohistochemistry or biochemical methods • Very good written and spoken English • Desirable: Bioinformatics and programming skills, FELASA certification (animal handling), German language skills You will work in a friendly multidisciplinary team, starting as soon as possible and no later than March 2025. The employment will be full-time for an initial period of two years according to the German pay scale E13 TV-L.
