Description
Ascape Landscape & Construction is looking for a knowledgeable, detail-oriented Plant Buyer & Nursery Manager to lead plant purchasing and day-to-day operations at our five-acre holding nursery. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who knows plants inside and out, thrives juggling multiple projects, and enjoys the mix of sourcing, negotiating, and hands-in-the-dirt nursery management. You'll be the go-to person for sourcing plant material across our commercial landscape projects — coordinating orders and deliveries, supervising a small nursery team, and making sure every plant that leaves our yard is healthy, correctly tagged, and ready for installation. We offer a competitive compensation package with a base annual salary of $65,000 - $75,000 commensurate with experience, Benefits include health coverage after 90 days, a 401(k) with a 4% employer match, paid time off, and vacation time What You'll Do • Source plant material, solicit quotes, compare vendors, and negotiate pricing based on budget, quality, availability, and lead times • Support project managers and estimators with pricing, availability, and substitution guidance • Track upcoming purchasing needs and flag availability issues before they become schedule problems • Communicate directly with clients on plant-related updates and substitutions • Build and maintain strong nursery/supplier relationships, and source new vendors as needed • Coordinate with PMs, vendors, field crews, and nursery staff on deliveries and install timing • Receive, inspect, and document incoming deliveries • Supervise 3–5 nursery employees and assign daily tasks • Monitor irrigation, plant health, and seasonal protection across the nursery • Prep and verify material for installation — right plant, right quantity, right condition • Maintain purchasing records, vendor quotes, and inventory tracking What You Bring • Experience in plant purchasing, nursery management, horticulture, or landscape construction • Strong knowledge of trees, shrubs, perennials, grasses, and commonly specified cultivars • Sharp negotiation, organization, and problem-solving skills • Comfort managing multiple projects and shifting timelines with minimal supervision • Proficiency in Excel and Outlook • Ability to communicate daily work assignments in Spanish • Valid driver's license Nice to Have • Experience buying for commercial landscape construction • Familiarity with Northeast wholesale nurseries and suppliers • Understanding of plant sizing, root-ball specs, and seasonal digging restrictions • Ability to read landscape plans and plant schedules • Experience with Monday.com, Canva, or similar project-tracking tools Good to Know • Outdoor role — you'll be on your feet across five acres in all types of weather • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs • Occasional early starts for deliveries and occasional Saturdays If you love plants, know your way around a purchase order, and want to run a nursery that actually matters to the projects it supplies — we'd love to hear from you.
