U1 offers enrichment through sports, academics and performing arts. Students participate in an environment that focuses on the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth of each child, thus encouraging self-exploration. Most importantly, we accomplish these goals while having fun. Our Physical Education specialist nurture the development of each participant regardless of athletic abilities, and emphasize sportsmanship, teamwork, self-discipline, and healthy competition. We are seeking to hire a part time Physical Education & Recess Specialists (10:00am-1pm) for our 2026-2027 Recess & After School programs located in on the Upper West Side, Riverdale, Harlem and Westchester County, NY area. This position is perfect for aspiring physical education teachers, coaches and educators. Sessions run daily, starting September and ending in June. Candidates must be able to commit to classes during the entire length of the school year. Responsibilities As a Physical Education Specialist, you will be responsible for working with Lower/Elementary School children aged from 6 to 11 and/or Middle School students (Ages 12-14). • Provide individualized and small group sports instruction in accordance with the curriculum and the needs of each student. • Provide differentiated instruction based on the student’s individual level of learning modalities and offer alternatives during classes to accommodate different levels of fitness and skills. • Provide a positive role model of appropriate and respectful interactions with students and staff and facilitate the development of confidence, character and community. • Motivate each student to cultivate physical fitness, hygienic habits and good social and emotional adjustment. • Develop strength, skill, agility, poise, and coordination in individual, dual, team physical activities and sports, in accordance with each student’s ability while teaching cognitive concepts related to motor skills and fitness. Skill Set Required • A love and passion for working with young children • Demonstration of enthusiasm and interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents and the community. • Flexibility and ability to cope with change. • Fun and bubbly personality • Excellent organization and time management skills • CPR/First Aid Certified OR willing to become certified
