Description
The position A PhD position is available at the Department of Pharmacy (IFA), Faculty of Health Sciences with the Drug Transport and Delivery research group . The position is for a period of four years. The nominal length of the PhD programme is three years. The fourth year is distributed as 25 % each year and will consist of teaching and other duties. The objective of the position is to complete research training to the level of a doctoral degree. Admission to the PhD programme is a prerequisite for employment, and the programme period starts on commencement of the position. The workplace is at UiT in Tromsø. You must be able to start in the position within a reasonable time after receiving the offer. The research group and project Drug Transport and Delivery Research Group is focusing on pharmaceutical technology as scientific discipline, with interests in optimization and characterization of drug formulations and nano-based delivery systems as means for improved therapeutic performance. The group currently consists of two professors, two associate professors, two technicians as well as post docs/researchers and PhD students. The members of the research group are responsible for courses in pharmaceutics and biopharmaceutics at bachelor, master and PhD level. In this project, we are aiming to prepare multifunctional wound dressings targeting an improved healing of hard-to-heal- and burn wounds. To obtain this, nanofiberous wound dressings will be electrospun from sustainable bioactive polymers. The active substances applied will be of both marine- and agricultural origine, and the formulation, processing method and settings will be optimized with upscaling and sustainability in mind. The formulations performance as a wound dressing will be investigated through an extensive testing regime, ranging from morphological and mechanical testing to biological performance both in cell assays and relevant bacteria strains, as well as in biofilms. The project will be conducted in close collaboration with both industrial and academic partners, situated both locally and internationally. To support the innovation perspective and clinical translation, we are also collaborating closely with our TTO, Norinnova AS. Qualifications This candidate must: Hold a master’s degree or equivalent in Pharmacy or Pharmaceutical Sciences. Documented fluency in English and be able to work in an international environment. Have documented experimental laboratory skills relevant for drug formulation and nanomedicine work. It will be considered an advantage if the candidate has: A master thesis within pharmaceutics and biopharmaceutics. Practical (hands-on) experience with pre-formulation studies, particularly with nanofibers and liposomes. Practical (hands-on) experience with characterization of nanoformulations, such as advanced microscopy, texture, swelling and bioadhesion. A strong interest in nanomedicine and biopolymer chemistry. A strong interest in topical drug formulations and local skin treatments. Basic software skills, including using Microsoft office programs (Power point, Excel, Word), EndNote or Mendeley, and preferably also GraphPad Prism or similar. Speaks Norwegian and/or Scandinavian language, due to teaching obligations. In the assessment, the emphasis is on the applicant's potential to complete a research education based on the master's thesis or equivalent, and any other scientific work. In addition, professional experience and other experience of significance for the completion of the doctoral programme will be taken into consideration. We will also emphasize motivation and personal suitability for the position. We are looking for candidates who: Have good collaboration skills Have good communication and interaction with colleagues and students Wants to contribute to a good working environment As many people as possible should have the opportunity to undertake organized research training.
