Department: Institute of Pharmacology and Toxicology Description: The lab has strong expertise in building genetically-encoded fluorescent sensors that allow the direct visualization of G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) activation by ligands with very high spatial and temporal resolution in living animals (mice). This new project will leverage on protein engineering, directed evolution of sensors in mammalian cell lines, as well as advanced ex vivo and in vivo imaging modalities that we have in the lab to engineer novel optogenetic tools for investigating neuromodulator signaling in the brain. We are looking for a motivated and hard-working student with good prior experience in molecular cloning and cellular imaging (confocal microscopy) and a good understanding of membrane receptor biology for this exciting project.
