Job Description Job Title: Party Floor Team Division: Programming Department: Party Floor Reports to: Party Floor Manager Position Type: Unpaid Volunteer Location: Remote with occasional in-person meetings (location-dependent), expected to be on-site during convention dates, including the day before and the day after for setup and teardown. About Anthro SoCal Anthro SoCal is a community-driven convention celebrating furry fandom through art, performance, gaming, and social connection. Our success depends on the dedication and enthusiasm of our volunteer team. Anthro SoCal was formally known as Another Furry Con in 2024-2025. Position Overview The Party Floor Team member is a crucial frontline staff member responsible for maintaining a safe, welcoming, and high-energy environment in the convention’s official party floor. In this staff-level role, you will work during night-time hours to monitor active party areas, ensure that room hosts are adhering to the convention's established safety and community guidelines, and staff the ASC Hydration Room. If you are a proactive, observant communicator who can balance a fun social atmosphere with rule enforcement, this role places you at the heart of the convention's nightlife operations. Time Commitment • Year-round: None • As convention approaches: Attend online staff meetings and trainings when requested • Convention weekend: On-site presence is required with flexible hours, primarily at night • Pre and post-convention: On-site presence is required to assist with setup and teardown activities the day before and the day after the event Key Responsibilities Your shift will center around active floor monitoring, compliance checks, and hydration logistics: • Guideline Enforcement & Compliance: Conduct regular walkthroughs of the party floor during operational hours to ensure hosts and attendees are following the convention's code of conduct, noise levels, and safety protocols • Hydration Room Monitoring: Staff and maintain the ASC Hydration Room, greeting attendees, monitoring guest safety, and ensuring water stations and supplies stay well-stocked and accessible throughout your shift • Incident Reporting & Escalation: Act as eyes and ears on the ground, identifying overcrowding, property damage, or safety hazards, and quickly escalating major policy violations or emergencies to the Party Floor Manager • Host Support & Hospitality: Serve as a friendly and helpful resource for party hosts, answering logistical questions, tracking trash collection needs, and helping them maintain a safe space for their guests • Crowd Flow Maintenance: Help monitor hallways and high-traffic entryways to prevent unsafe bottlenecks and ensure clear paths for attendees moving between rooms Qualifications Required: • Punctuality & Night-Shift Reliability: Strict adherence to your scheduled shift times. Because party spaces operate late into the evening, being on time and ready for night-shift coverage is critical to keeping the floor operational • Assertive Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal and verbal skills to communicate and enforce convention guidelines clearly, firmly, and politely with highly energized crowds • Problem-Solving & Patience: The ability to "think on your feet" when encountering a rowdy room or a supply shortage, remaining completely calm, helpful, and professional under pressure • Physical Stamina: Comfort with standing, walking, and moving between hotel floors for the duration of a multi-hour evening shift, as well as lifting water jugs or restocked supplies Preferred: • Fandom & Convention Knowledge: A deep understanding of convention party culture and community expectations, allowing you to seamlessly engage with attendees while anticipating potential issues • Customer Service or Crowd Control Experience: Prior experience in hospitality, event safety, event staffing, retail, or a front-facing customer support role • Conflict Resolution Skills: Excellent de-escalation skills to handle late-night rule enforcement or policy reminders with absolute tact and composure What We Offer While this is an unpaid volunteer position, we provide: • Free convention membership and staff perks • Staff hospitality (meals/snacks during your shifts at-con) • Exclusive staff events and social opportunities • Recognition in convention materials • Experience in event management and team leadership • A supportive, creative community environment • References and recommendation letters upon request Anthro SoCal is committed to creating an inclusive environment.
