Location: Banbury, Oxfordshire Hours: 2 days per week (part-time/flexible) Industry: Legal Practice About the Firm We are a well-established legal practice based in Banbury, providing trusted legal services to a diverse client base across Oxfordshire and beyond. With a strong reputation for professionalism and client care, we are seeking an experienced Finance Director to oversee the financial strategy and management of the firm on a part-time basis. Role Overview As Finance Director, you will be a key member of the leadership team, responsible for shaping financial strategy, ensuring sound financial management, and providing clear commercial insights to support sustainable growth. You will also ensure compliance with Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) requirements and best practice within the legal sector. Key Responsibilities • Lead on financial strategy, planning, and budgeting in line with the firm’s objectives. • Oversee day-to-day financial management, cashflow, and working capital. • Provide accurate and timely management information, forecasts, and reports to the partners. • Ensure compliance with statutory, tax, and regulatory requirements, including SRA Accounts Rules. • Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to improve profitability and efficiency. • Support decisions on investment, resourcing, and growth opportunities. • Manage relationships with external accountants, auditors, banks, and insurers. • Oversee internal financial controls, processes, and systems, recommending improvements where needed. • Mentor and support the finance team (if applicable), ensuring strong operational delivery. Skills & Experience • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent). • Previous experience in a Finance Director, Head of Finance, or senior finance role. • Experience working within professional services, ideally legal practices, with knowledge of SRA Accounts Rules. • Strong understanding of cashflow management, profitability, and business planning. • Excellent communication skills, able to engage confidently with partners and staff at all levels. • Hands-on, pragmatic, and commercially minded, with the ability to balance strategic oversight with operational detail.
