The company is now entering its next phase of development, with a focus on strengthening financial controls, improving reporting, and supporting strategic decision-making at board level.
The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and commercially minded Finance Director to work closely with the owners and senior leadership team on a part-time basis (circa 1 day per week).
This is a hands-on and strategic role, ideal for a seasoned FD who enjoys working within owner-managed businesses and can balance operational detail with high-level financial leadership. Key Responsibilities
Strategic & Commercial
• Act as a trusted advisor to the owners, supporting business growth and long-term planning
• Provide financial insight to inform key business decisions
• Develop and deliver financial strategy aligned to company objectives
• Support pricing, margin improvement, and profitability analysis
Financial Management & Reporting
• Oversee monthly management accounts and financial reporting processes
• Improve visibility of KPIs, cashflow, and business performance
• Lead budgeting, forecasting, and scenario planning
• Ensure robust financial controls and processes are in place
Cashflow & Risk
• Manage cashflow forecasting and working capital
• Identify financial risks and implement mitigation strategies
• Support funding, banking relationships, and potential financing activities
Governance & Compliance
• Ensure statutory compliance, tax, and regulatory requirements are met
• Liaise with external accountants, auditors, and advisors
• Strengthen internal controls and financial governance
Leadership & Systems
• Mentor and support the existing finance function (if applicable)
• Review and enhance finance systems, processes, and efficiencies
• Drive continuous improvement across finance and reporting
Candidate Profile
Essential
• Qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA or equivalent)
• Proven experience as a Finance Director or senior finance leader within an SME
• Strong commercial acumen with the ability to influence at board level
• Hands-on approach with the ability to operate both strategically and operationally
• Experience working with owner-managed or family-run businesses
Desirable
• Experience in service-led, operationally complex environments
• Background in scaling or professionalising SME finance functions
• Familiarity with project-based or logistics-style operations

• Strong communicator with the ability to build trust quickly
