JOB TITLE: Outdoor Education Instructor LOCATION: Venturewood Outdoor Education Centre, Pool Lane, Sandiway, Cheshire, CW8 2DR REPORTS TO: Outdoor Education Centre Manager / Deputy Manager SALARY: £24,912.17 – £27,505.05 per annum. Extra pay for evening duty 5pm-8.30pm – £40 & sleep-in cover – £50 HOURS: Monday to Friday 8:30am – 4:30pm – 35 hours per week DBS: Enhanced check required Two exciting opportunities have arisen at Venturewood: • 1 x Full Time Outdoor Instructor, 35 hours per week, £24,912.17 – £27,505.05 • 1 x Part Time Outdoor Instructor, 21 hours per week, £14,947.30 – £16,503.03 Venturewood Outdoor Education Centre hosts groups of up to 35 attendees from schools and organisations across the region, and we welcome over 4000 young people to the centre each year through a combination of day and short stay residential courses. We also take groups on offsite residential adventure courses. Venturewood is also the official learning partner for Forestry England’s Delamere site. Here we deliver forest-based learning to include but not exclusively: Art, Bushcraft, Den building, Expedition skills, Habitat walks, Orienteering, Pond dipping, Pond study, Leadership activities, Confidence building, Team building, Adventure walks, Woodland survival and STEM adventures. Purpose of the Role To deliver inclusive and engaging outdoor learning sessions to young people of all abilities, supporting their development in confidence, independence, and resilience through high-quality, age-appropriate activities. You’ll bring creativity, energy, and a collaborative spirit to support design of programmes that foster personal growth, build resilience, and support learning. Key Responsibilities • Plan and deliver a variety of outdoor learning sessions including bushcraft, high ropes, climbing, water-based activities, and nature-based learning. • Work across both the Petty Pool and Delamere sites as required • Support learners with a wide range of needs, using adaptive approaches and person-centred communication. • Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all participants, completing dynamic risk assessments and responding appropriately to incidents. • Prepare, maintain, and check equipment to ensure it is safe and ready for use. • Collaborate with colleagues to deliver residential courses and offsite visits. • Support the collection of learner feedback and contribute to evaluating programme success. • Participate in regular training and development, including safeguarding, SEND awareness, and activity-specific upskilling. • Promote a welcoming, inclusive environment that aligns with Petty Pool’s values and culture. • Follow best practice and aim for excellence of sustainability in your delivery. Person Specification Qualifications • Two or more NGB activity awards (e.g., Climbing Wall Instructor, Paddle Sports Instructor, Forest School Level 3) • 16 Hour Outdoor First Aid certificate (or willingness to obtain). • Driving licence advantageous. Experience & Skills • Experience in delivering outdoor education to young people. • Strong interpersonal and group management skills. • Experience working with individuals with SEND is highly desirable. • Passionate about outdoor learning, youth development, and inclusive practice. • Experience of delivery within alternative education. • Able to work flexibly, including evenings and overnight residentials. • Passionate about outdoor learning, youth development, and inclusive practice. • Able to work flexibly, including evenings and overnight residentials (if the need arises to support partner centres).
