Reports To: Administrative Services Manager
FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt
GENERAL PURPOSE:
The Kids Corner Attendant will supervise and coordinate activities for children by providing a positive social interaction in a safe, secure, clean, and happy environment. Maintain a comfortable, non-threatening and closely supervised environment for children while parents are in the facility so that children can get to know and interact with other children. Incumbent must demonstrate a strong personal commitment to the mission and goals of the Belton Parks & Recreation Department. Carry out their assigned responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Ensure that children assigned to care are supervised at all times and treated with dignity, respect, and cultural sensitivity.
• Support the behavior of children with positive guidance.
• Observe and monitor children’s play activities to ensure that everyone is safe and getting along.
• Read to children, and teach them simple painting, drawing, handicrafts, and songs.
• To see that all parents or guardians register their children on the sign-in sheet and leave a call number.
• To develop a good rapport with parents.
• Call the parent if the child needs his/her diaper change, becomes ill, or is upset.
• Responsible for accurate counts on all children that attend.
• Handle customer service inquiries and related problems.
• Maintain open lines of communication with staff, parents, and supervisor.
• Organize and store toys and materials to ensure order in activity areas.
• Sanitize toys and play equipment at the end of each shift.
• To attend all staff meetings.
• Be completely knowledgeable of all Belton Parks & Recreation programs and services to answer questions and/or channel calls to the proper administrative and support staff.
• Report any damages or maintenance needs to the Administrative Services Manager immediately.
• Other duties as assigned by the Parks & Recreation Department Supervisors.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:
• Some knowledge of equipment, materials and supplies used in building and grounds maintenance; some knowledge of equipment and supplies used to do minor repairs; some knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions.
• Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment.
• Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule; ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time, and to perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions; ability to communicate orally and in writing; ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely; ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions; ability to establish effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, and the public.
Education and Experience:
• High School diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
• Previous experience in working with children preferred.
• Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications preferred.
Physical Requirements:
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk; and use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls.
• The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.
• The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts.
• The employee occasionally works in highs, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic chemicals.
• The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock.
