Internship: Literature review on carbon potential of agroforestry systems - WeForest Donate Now Donate Now Brussels/remote (Europe preferred) Internship: Literature review on carbon potential of agroforestry systems Flexible February 20, 2024 WeForest is seeking a highly motivated individual to join its Monitoring & Evaluation team and inform WeForest’s Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEL) processes by reviewing the current literature on carbon gains through agroforestry and identify the most appropriate estimates of carbon sequestration potential for the wide range of agroforestry systems used by WeForest. • Internship agreement (tripartite convention) • Location: position based in Brussels, open to remote work (Europe) • Schedule: flexible, min. 2,5 days per week • Duration: 3 months • Starting date: as soon as possible The intern will perform a structured literature review to collate and synthesise the existing knowledge on the topic. The review will focus on the carbon potential of different agroforestry systems, but could also be extended to explore and review different (species-specific) allometric equations for tree species and ecosystems relevant to WeForest’s projects. The geographical focus will primarily be on agroforesty systems implemented by WeForest in Zambia, Malawi and Ethiopia, and can be expanded to include those in Senegal, Brazil and Argentina. The candidate must have a “can do” attitude and looking for new challenges who can adapt to a fluid work environment. In return, they will be a part of a motivated, highly skilled team and contribute to the growth and positive direction of our projects. REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS • Bachelor or Master student in Biology, Forestry, Ecology, Bio-Engineering, Environmental studies, Sustainable Development or equivalent. • Good communication in English (written and spoken). • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. • Attention to detail and a sense of responsibility. • Willingness to learn.
