Instructional Specialist – Aviation Maintenance Location: Raleigh County Airport – Beaver, WV Employment Type: Full-Time Shape the Next Generation of Aviation Professionals New River Community and Technical College invites experienced aviation maintenance professionals to join our FAA Part 147 Aviation Maintenance Technology program as an Instructional Specialist – Aviation Maintenance . This is an exciting opportunity to share your industry expertise, mentor future aviation technicians, and make a lasting impact on workforce development in southern West Virginia. As a faculty member, you will deliver high-quality classroom and hands-on instruction in a state-of-the-art hangar environment while supporting student success, safety, and professional growth. Position Overview The Instructional Specialist – Aviation Maintenance serves as a full-time faculty member within the Aviation Maintenance Technology program and reports to the Dean of Technical, Workforce, and Community Education . Instruction takes place at the New River CTC Aviation Hangar located at the Raleigh County Airport . In this role, you will: • Teach a full instructional load each semester • Provide academic advising and mentorship to students • Maintain FAA compliance and training standards • Engage in college, community, and professional development activities Key Responsibilities Instruction & Student Success • Deliver engaging classroom lectures using FAA-approved lesson plans • Supervise and assess hands-on shop and laboratory activities • Foster an inclusive and effective learning environment for diverse learners • Ensure students meet program competencies and safety standards Program & Facility Management • Oversee shop projects, tools, training equipment, and inventory • Maintain clean, safe, and FAA-compliant instructional facilities • Submit accurate grades and attendance records in a timely manner • Adhere to all FAA Part 147 regulations Professional & Institutional Engagement • Participate in faculty meetings, commencements, and college committees • Support Program Director responsibilities as needed • Complete required compliance and safety training • Engage in ongoing professional development and industry affiliations Compliance & Safety • Follow all federal, state, and local laws and college policies • Adhere to WV State Ethics Acts • Follow purchasing and financial accountability procedures • Uphold all safety protocols and reporting requirements Required Qualifications Education • Associate’s Degree in a relevant field (required) • Bachelor’s Degree (preferred) Experience • 10 years of verifiable aviation maintenance experience • At least 3 years meeting FAA Part 147 standards (required) • Classroom or instructional experience , including remote instruction (preferred) Licenses & Certifications • FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) Certification (required) • Valid Driver’s License (required) Skills & Abilities • Strong planning, organization, and time-management skills • Effective written and verbal communication • Ability to work independently while collaborating with college leadership • Proficiency with computers and software (MS Office, Google Workspace) • Commitment to confidentiality, professionalism, and teamwork Professional Development • Routine completion of compliance and institutional training • Participation in professional organizations and continuing education opportunities Our Mission, Values & Vision At New River Community and Technical College, we are committed to accessible, affordable, and high-quality education that strengthens our region and transforms lives.
