Requirements • Must hold a current license as a registered nurse (RN), in the state of New York • Perform surveillance to identify individual infections in residents and staff and to identify clusters of infection in a timely manner. • Track trends in infection within the facility and report specific infections/clusters to appropriate agencies, as required by state and local regulations. • Identify infection control issues (e.g. those identified during environmental rounds) and make recommendations for corrective action. • Prepare the agenda for and chair the Infection Prevention and Control Team. • Monitor infection prevention and control practices and employee compliance. • Develop and revise infection prevention and control policies and procedures and maintain the infection prevention and control manual for all departments. • Conduct outbreak investigation and initiate control measures. • Provide orientation and continuing education related to infection prevention and control for all staff. • Provide infection prevention and control consultation to all departments. • Actively participate in quality improvement programs; reports Infection Prevention data to the Quality Improvement Committee. • Direct short- and long-range planning activities for infection prevention and control. • Engage in educational programs for professional development. • Maintain membership in professional organizations for current information and new developments in infection prevention and control. • Report to the Infection Prevention and Control Team and to all departments in the facility, in recognition of the fact that an effective infection prevention and control program necessitates the cooperation of the entire staff. • When possible, provides other duties as requested.
