HW Design Engineer Annual gross salary range: Min. 29,681€ - Max. 46,174€ (depending on experience) Who are we? We are currently hiring a Hardware Design Engineer to join our Smart Cloud Factory Team in Lisbon The Smart Cloud Factory is dedicated to transforming traditional manufacturing into a fully connected, intelligent, and sustainable Smart Factory. The factory leverages digitalized and automated manufacturing processes, real-time data integration and analytics, sustainable and energy-efficient production systems, and human-machine collaboration to achieve Volkswagen’s vision of a Software-Enabled Car Company. The Smart Cloud Factory supports the integration of IoT, cloud platforms, data pipelines, and AI to enable predictive maintenance, real-time quality control, and agile manufacturing. The factory aims to simplify complexity and create a connected ecosystem where machines, systems, and people work seamlessly together. What we do in our team? Our Smart Cloud Factory team is at the forefront of Volkswagen’s transformation strategy. What will your responsibilities be? · Develop and review electronic hardware designs, including schematics and PCB layouts. · Perform hardware simulations and technical analyses within the assigned development area. · Design and define electronic circuit concepts for automotive control units. · Support the execution of functional safety analyses, including FMEDA. · Investigate hardware failures and contribute to root cause analysis and corrective actions. · Collaborate with customer engineering departments during design reviews and technical discussions. · Support supplier management activities, ensuring alignment with technical requirements. · Prepare technical documentation, engineering calculations, and project overviews. · Contribute to hardware cost estimations and technical feasibility assessments. · Ensure compliance with automotive quality standards and customer-specific development processes. What requirements are we looking for? · Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, or a comparable technical discipline. · 3–5+ years of experience in automotive hardware development, preferably involving safety-related electronic control units. · Strong understanding of electronic components, circuit design, and PCB development principles. · Experience performing schematic reviews and hardware layout evaluations. · Knowledge of digital and analog circuit technology. · Experience with measurement technology and sensor systems. · Familiarity with automotive development processes and engineering documentation. · Experience working with requirements management and engineering collaboration tools such as Codebeamer, DOORS and AI tools. · Experience using Altium Designer or comparable electronic design software. · Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams and suppliers. · Strong written and spoken English skills are required; German is considered a plus. Preferred Skills · Experience in the development of safety-critical automotive electronic control units. · Knowledge of functional safety standards and methodologies. · Familiarity with automotive product development lifecycles. · Experience supporting supplier technical coordination and customer engineering reviews. · Ability to perform technical investigations and hardware failure analyses. · Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. · Ability to work in international and multidisciplinary engineering environments.
