Job Description: Performs both routine and complex histologic techniques such as enzyme histochemistry, immunohistochemistry, in-situ hybridization, and immunofluorescence on tissue samples for microscopic examination by a pathologist to diagnose disease. Must be knowledgeable in the areas of pathology, management, education, and regulations that impact the field of histotechnology Job Responsibilities: • Perform all duties of the technical assistant as necessary, including accessioning • Gross patient tissue according to protocol • Carefully and efficiently embed tissue according to protocol. • Produce diagnostically optimal sections at an acceptable rate • Performs routine and special stains. • Performs Immunohistochemistry procedures • Performs routine and high complexity testing • File paraffin blocks. • Alert lead tech and supervisor of low inventory of supplies and reagents • Performs and documents maintenance on equipment • Helps troubleshoot equipment issues. • Document quality issues • Communicate problems effectively • Read and follow all policies and procedures • Participates in quality assurance activities. • Read emails and respond accordingly. • Engage with everyone in a respectful and professional manner • Demonstrate teamwork by assisting others when possible • Performs other duties when assigned • Evaluate test controls and help troubleshoot problems • Help maintain a clean and safe work environment.
