Position: SEMH Teaching Assistant Location: Southampton Start Date: September 2026 Contract Type: Full-Time Long-Term Pay Rate: £85 £100 per day About the School Supply Desk is proud to be working in partnership with a specialist SEMH provision in Southampton, dedicated to supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The Role We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join the team on a full-time, long-term basis from September 2026. You will play a vital role in supporting pupils both inside and outside the classroom, helping them to overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential. This is a highly rewarding role for someone who is patient, resilient, and passionate about supporting young people with additional needs. Key Responsibilities • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs • Assist the class teacher in delivering engaging and accessible lessons • Support pupils in managing behaviour and emotional regulation • Build strong, trusting relationships with students to encourage positive engagement • Implement behaviour support strategies and personalised learning plans • Promote a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment • Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral staff, and external agencies The Ideal Candidate • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEN, or behavioural needs (preferred but not essential) • A calm, patient and resilient approach • Strong communication and interpersonal skills • Ability to build positive relationships with challenging learners • A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people • A willingness to learn and develop professionally What Supply Desk Offers • Competitive daily pay of £85 £100 • Long-term, stable placement in a specialist setting • Ongoing support from a dedicated consultant • Access to CPD and training opportunities • Opportunity to make a real and lasting impact on young lives Safeguarding Statement Supply Desk is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
