Principle Objective Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Health, Safety, Training & Quality Officer is responsible for development and continuous improvement of health, safety and operational compliance standards across the timber frame manufacturing operation, ensuring a safe, legally compliant and high-performing workplace. The role is responsible for driving a proactive safety culture, developing and delivering training programmes, creating and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), investigating customer complaints and product non-conformances, implementing effective Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA), and monitoring their effectiveness to ensure sustainable improvement. The position supports and supporting operational excellence across timber frame manufacturing, processing, warehousing, maintenance and logistics activities. The Health & Safety Officer will work closely with operational leaders to reduce risk, improve colleague engagement in safety, and embed best practice health and safety standards throughout the business. Knowledge & Experience – Third level qualification in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health, Engineering, Manufacturing or related discipline. – NEBOSH General Certificate, IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent professional qualification. – Minimum 3 years' experience in a Health & Safety role within manufacturing, timber processing, engineering, construction products or similar industrial environments. – Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation in the UK. – Experience conducting risk assessments, incident investigations and root cause analysis. – Demonstrated experience developing, reviewing and implementing SOPs and Safe Systems of Work. – Experience designing and delivering health, safety and operational training programmes. – Knowledge of machinery safety, lockout/tagout procedures, permit-to-work systems and contractor management. – Experience supporting ISO 9001, ISO 45001 systems or similar management frameworks desirable. – Experience Facilitating investigations into quality failures and customer concerns, ensuring robust root cause determination, timely CAPA implementation and verification of long-term effectiveness. – Strong report writing, documentation and audit skills. – Competent in Microsoft Office and digital learning management systems. – Experience working in high-risk environments involving mobile plant, woodworking machinery, timber frame manufacturing or automated production lines is highly desirable. [JG1] – Support managers and supervisors in fulfilling their health and safety responsibilities. – Provide professional health and safety guidance to operational teams and senior management. – Monitor emerging legislative and industry developments and ensure organisational compliance. – Develop and deliver a structured health and safety training programme. – Develop and maintain a site competency framework ensuring colleagues are trained, assessed and authorised on specific areas and equipment – Support and create training materials such as e-learning content to enhance workforce capability – Work with managers to identify skills gaps and succession planning requirements – Develop and Deliver site inductions for employees, contractors and visitors. – Deliver task/process specific training. – Maintain training matrices and competency records. – Conduct training needs analyses and implement developmental plans. – Deliver toolbox talks, safety briefings and refresher training sessions. – Support operational leaders in developing competence standards for key manufacturing activities. – Draft, review and maintain SOPs, Safe Operating Procedures and Safe System
