Head of Legal, Greater China • Position located in Shanghai • Reports to APAC General Counsel and dotted line to China Country Manager • Five direct reports (3 legal counsels and 2 legal specialists) Key responsibilities: • Act as a strategic partner to the business leaders of Straumann’s China and Taiwan sales and manufacturing operations. Support Straumann’s business in the distributor market Hong Kong and Macau. • Provide legal guidance, risk assessment for, support and recommendations in key decision making • Work in multidisciplinary teams with responsibility for all Greater China legal matters • Work closely with Compliance team • Lead and inspire a high-performance legal team, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment • Nurture a culture of accountability, integrity and continuous learning, encourage innovation and excellence among team members • Actively promote and defend the interests of Straumann • Act as a business partner advising and supporting our sales and manufacturing operations and business to achieve our objectives while being involved from start to finish in all relevant matters • Closely cooperate with various local and APAC stakeholders to ensure seamless and effective coordination and interaction • Work with stakeholders to identify, assess and mitigate potential risk to the business • Draft, review and negotiate all sorts of strategic and other commercial agreements • Corporate housekeeping, support in M&A projects, integration of newly acquired companies • Advise on new laws and regulations • Support business development initiatives, investments and partnerships, ensure sustainable growth and profitability Qualifications: • Qualified lawyer admitted to the China Bar • Minimum of 10 years’ professional experience (Prior in-house experience in the medtech or pharmaceutical industry preferred. Experience in a law firm considered an advantage) • Strong proficiency in English (written and spoken) • Digitally savvy, with the ability to leverage legal tech solutions and drive efficiency through technology • Strong business acumen with the ability to act as a strategic partner to senior management • High personal integrity • Strategic thinking combined with a pragmatic, solution-oriented mindset • Ability to operate effectively in a complex, matrixed, and multicultural environment • Strong communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to translate legal concepts into clear business guidance • Resilience and adaptability in a fast-paced, evolving regulatory landscape • Proactive, hands-on approach with a strong sense of ownership and accountability
