About the role bp is growing its global Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) business, with participation across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, North America and South America. Our LNG portfolio includes long-term and spot market activities supported by a diverse supply position, market access arrangements and a shipping network. As Gas Japan Team Lead , you will play a key role in advancing bp’s LNG business in Japan. You will lead a small team, develop relationships across the Japanese energy sector, identify new opportunities and support the delivery of commercial agreements. You will work closely with colleagues across trading, origination, shipping and upstream businesses to help develop value from bp’s LNG portfolio. This is an opportunity to influence business growth in one of the world's most important LNG markets while working within a global and highly collaborative environment. What you will do Market Leadership & Relationship Management • Build and maintain positive relationships with collaborators across Japan's gas and LNG sector. • Represent bp in commercial engagements with customers, partners and industry participants. • Support negotiations by providing market insight, local expertise and commercial recommendations. Business Development & Growth • Identify and evaluate opportunities that support LNG marketing, optimisation and portfolio growth. • Work with internal teams to develop commercial solutions aligned with bp's gas strategy. • Chip in to business development initiatives across LNG, upstream and related energy activities. Team Leadership • Lead, coach and support team of LNG professionals based in Japan. • Foster an inclusive, collaborative and high-performing team environment. • Encourage knowledge sharing and professional development. Market Intelligence & Strategy • Supervise developments in the Japanese gas and LNG market. • Provide regular market analysis, customer insights and competitive intelligence. • Contribute to strategic planning and growth initiatives for bp's gas business. Commercial Execution • Support the implementation and management of LNG sales and purchase agreements. • Work closely with trading, operations and shipping teams to ensure flawless contract execution. • Support discussions about pricing and risk management solutions for customers. Cross-Regional Collaboration • Partner with colleagues across Singapore and global locations to identify emerging LNG opportunities. • Contribute local market expertise to regional and global commercial activities. What we are looking for Crucial Experience • Experience in a commercial, business development, marketing, trading or customer-facing role within energy, commodities or a related industry. • Strong understanding of the Japanese LNG market and its key commercial drivers. • Experience building and maintaining external partner relationships. • Ability to analyse sophisticated information and make informed commercial recommendations. • Experience addressing a range of audiences, including leadership and customers. • Ability to work optimally in a dynamic and evolving market environment. Crucial Skills • Fluent English & Japanese language skills, both written and spoken. • Commercial foresight with strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities. • Ability to influence and collaborate across teams with varied strengths and cultures. • Strong social skills and relationship-building capability. • Confidence working with incomplete information and managing ambiguity. Education • Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field, or equivalent professional experience. Nice to Have • Knowledge of LNG trading, shipping or optimisation activities. • Understanding of broader energy and commodity markets, including crude oil and refined products. • Experience working across international teams and multicultural environments. • People leadership experience.
