Head of Commercial Asset Management Role Objective We are seeking an experienced Head of Commercial Asset Management to lead and develop a high-performing team responsible for the commercial management of a growing renewable energy portfolio, with a particular focus on Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). This is a strategic leadership role responsible for driving commercial performance across multiple assets by optimising revenue streams, managing commercial contracts, overseeing regulatory developments, and supporting long-term portfolio value creation. Working at the intersection of trading, optimisation, finance, regulation, and operations, the successful candidate will play a key role in shaping and evolving the commercial asset management function within a rapidly expanding energy transition business. Key Responsibilities Leadership & Team Management Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Commercial Asset Managers, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Set clear objectives, priorities, and performance standards aligned with business strategy and portfolio objectives. Act as the senior escalation point for commercial, contractual, and operational matters within the asset management function. Commercial Asset Management Take ownership of the commercial performance of the renewable energy portfolio, ensuring revenue optimisation and operational value creation. Manage and oversee multiple revenue streams, ensuring accurate reconciliation and effective commercial management. Support the identification and implementation of new revenue opportunities and commercial optimisation initiatives. Lead annual portfolio budgeting activities and contribute to long-term financial planning. Contract & Revenue Management Manage trading agreements and commercial contracts associated with portfolio operations. Oversee settlement of revenues and contractual payments, including interactions relating to grid services, supplier imbalance, embedded benefits, and other commercial arrangements. Work closely with finance teams to support invoice reconciliation and ensure accurate financial reporting. Develop and manage portfolio insurance strategies, including renewals and commercial negotiations. Market & Regulatory Engagement Build and maintain strong relationships with Route-to-Market providers, trading counterparties, and other commercial partners. Monitor electricity markets and revenue opportunities across multiple ancillary service and flexibility markets. Support submissions for monthly and annual market auctions and ensure assets remain qualified for relevant market participation mechanisms. Monitor regulatory developments and emerging flexibility services, assessing commercial impacts and identifying new opportunities. Reporting & Performance Analysis Oversee the preparation of monthly commercial performance reports, providing clear analysis and commentary on revenue drivers and portfolio performance. Provide commercial input into investor reporting, internal business reviews, and senior management presentations. Deliver detailed commercial analysis to support strategic decision-making and portfolio optimisation. Strategic Projects Lead or support cross-functional projects, including implementation of new management systems, construction and commissioning activities, operational fleet optimisation, and development of new commercial initiatives. Work collaboratively across investment, operations, finance, optimisation, and technical teams to ensure alignment between commercial strategy and operational delivery. Support the continued development and integration of commercial processes across multiple business functions and locations. Travel The role is primarily office-based, with occasional travel to customer, supplier, or operational sites as required (typically approximately one day per month). Skills & Experience Experience Minimum of five years' experience within energy trading, commercial optimisation, asset management, market analytics, or another regulated commercial environment. Proven leadership experience managing and developing high-performing teams. Experience within Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), renewable energy markets, or wider energy infrastructure sectors is highly desirable. Demonstrated experience managing complex commercial contracts and multiple revenue streams. Technical & Analytical Skills Strong analytical capability with the ability to interpret complex market and commercial data to support strategic decision-making. Experience supporting market auctions, flexibility services, and revenue optimisation activities. Sound understanding of commercial settlement processes and contract management. Comfortable working with business information systems, reporting platforms, and Microsoft Office applications. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Finance, Economics, Science, Mathematics, Data Science, or another numerically focused discipline. Candidates with strong technical or data-focused backgrounds combined with relevant commercial experience will also be considered.
