Vacancy summary
East Kent Colleges Group (EKC Group) is seeking a new Governor to Chair its Audit Committee, strengthening its Board and supporting the continued growth of one of the country’s highest-performing and most community-focused further education groups. With six community-based colleges, over 13,000 learners, 1,600 staff, Ofsted Outstanding grades in all areas, and Outstanding financial health, this is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a sector-leading organisation shaping the future of skills and education across East Kent.
EKC Group delivers a wide range of technical, vocational, academic, and higher-level provision, alongside apprenticeships, adult learning, and specialist training for employers in areas such as construction, digital technologies, engineering, business, and health. Its mission is driven by strong employer partnerships, investment in world-class facilities, and a commitment to ensuring learners are equipped for life and work in a rapidly changing economy.
The Governing Body is seeking an experienced professional to take on the key strategic role of Chair of the Audit Committee, helping guide the Group as it continues its ambitious trajectory.
A qualified finance, audit, assurance, or risk specialist is required to lead the Audit Committee and provide robust oversight of the Group’s risk management, internal control environment, and compliance with the Framework for Auditors and Reporting Accountants of Colleges. The successful candidate will offer informed challenge, support strong governance, and contribute to the Group’s continued organisational and financial excellence.
Candidates will ideally bring prior chairing or committee leadership experience and may come from a range of professional backgrounds. Experience within further education or governance is beneficial but not essential; the ability to provide rigorous scrutiny and strategic insight is the primary requirement.
EKC Group’s Governing Body comprises volunteers from business, education, public services, and the wider community, alongside staff and student members. Governors play a vital role in setting strategic direction, monitoring performance, and ensuring the Group delivers high-quality education and positive outcomes for all learners. Volunteering as a Governor and Committee Chair is a rewarding opportunity to contribute to your community, influence high-level decision-making, and support the future of education in East Kent.
