General Operative / Fabrication Assistant – County Waterford
Hartley People Recruitment is seeking a General Operative / Fabrication Assistant on behalf of a well-established engineering and metal fabrication company based in County Waterford .
This is an excellent opportunity for a practical, hands-on individual looking to build a career within the engineering and fabrication industry. Working alongside experienced fabricators and welders, the successful candidate will assist with the manufacture of bespoke steel products while gaining valuable workshop experience.
Key Responsibilities
• Assist fabricators and welders with the preparation and assembly of steel components.
• Cut, clean, grind and prepare materials for fabrication and welding.
• Operate basic workshop equipment including saws, drills, grinders and other fabrication tools.
• Move and handle raw materials and finished products safely throughout the workshop.
• Assist with loading and unloading deliveries and preparing orders for dispatch.
• Support the fabrication team with measuring, marking out and general workshop duties.
• Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment.
• Carry out quality checks on completed work under the guidance of senior team members.
• Assist with stock organisation and material management within the workshop.
• Follow all company health and safety procedures and wear appropriate PPE at all times.
Requirements
• Previous experience in a manufacturing, engineering, construction or workshop environment would be advantageous but is not essential.
• Practical hands-on skills and a willingness to learn fabrication processes.
• Comfortable using hand tools and basic power tools.
• Good attention to detail and pride in producing quality work.
• Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
• Reliable, hardworking and safety conscious.
• Forklift or Manual Handling certification would be beneficial but is not essential.
• A genuine interest in engineering, fabrication or metalwork would be an advantage.
