Description
Are you an HBO/University student and passionate about data analysis and biomedical engineering? Do you want to apply your knowledge to optimize high-tech measurement instruments? Then this internship might be the perfect opportunity for you! About Avantes Avantes is a leading innovator in fiber-optic spectroscopy, with over 30 years of experience developing cutting-edge spectrometers, light sources, fiber optics, software, and accessories. Our technology enables spectroscopy and material characterization in various industries, supporting scientific and industrial advancements. We achieve this through a service-oriented mindset, encouraging and motivating each other with a professional and constructive attitude. We envision a future where our advanced optical solutions serve as catalysts for driving innovations that enhance the quality of life and contribute to a thriving, sustainable society. Curious to discover how our products can be implemented in the field? Check out this video! Assignment Spectroscopy is a powerful tool capable of revealing physiological information such as tissue hydration, oxygenation, and early signs of infection or healing. At medical trade shows and industry exhibitions, interactive demonstrations of this technology can help showcase its potential to healthcare professionals and partners. To support our presence at upcoming medical trade shows, Avantes is developing a ‘Future Hospital’ booth experience, designed to showcase how advanced technologies like spectral data can enhance patient care across clinical settings. As part of this larger initiative, we are creating simulation-based demonstrations that illustrate the role of real-time spectral data in improving patient monitoring and clinical decision-making. The main goal of this internship is to design and prototype an interactive, booth-ready simulation that mimics real-time monitoring based on spectral data. The project offers flexibility, allowing the intern to choose from three focused clinical scenarios to fully develop and visualize. These scenarios include diabetic foot ulcer risk detection, dehydration monitoring, and post-surgical wound monitoring. Clinical scenarios to choose from: • Diabetic foot ulcer risk detection (UV + NIR indicators for infection and poor oxygenation) • Dehydration monitoring (NIR + SWIR for hydration changes in tissue layers) • Post-Surgical wound monitoring (full-spectrum UV/VIS/NIR for healing progression) Deliverables A comprehensive final report containing: • Overview of current challenges in real-time monitoring for the chosen use case. • Detailed explanation of how spectral data evolves over time for the chosen scenario (e.g., changes in tissue hydration, oxygenation, or infection detection). • Descriptions of the spectral indicators used (e.g., UV, NIR), how they relate to the clinical scenario, and how the data will be represented in the demo setup. • Explanation of the proposed design (preferably including drawings/CAD files). A working prototype of the proposed tradeshow setup. We are looking for: We are looking for an enthusiastic HBO or WO student with a background in: • Applied Mathematics • Biomedical technology • Sustainable Energy technology We offer: • A good compensation per month • Travel reimbursement of €0,23 per km (when traveling by car) • Informal work atmosphere, short lines of communication • Working in a high-tech environment Interested? Are you an HBO/university student and excited about this opportunity? Fill out the form below, or send an email to [email protected] and join us in optimizing spectroscopy technology!
