Who are Midland Mencap? Midland Mencap is a charity which works and campaigns for accessible and inclusive services and a better quality of life for everyone with experience of learning disabilities and additional needs. Volunteering with Midland Mencap is your opportunity to do something really positive, to have a great time, and help us achieve our vision. Purpose of the role? Our Weoley Castle Community Centre is a thriving and busy hub where adults with learning disabilities, carers, professionals and the local community access a variety of services. We are looking for volunteers who would like to help us maintain a safe and welcoming environment for visitors at the community centre! What would I be doing? • Occupying the reception area to welcome visitors to the centre – including managing the front door which needs to be physically opened • Greeting visitors in a friendly manner and ensuring they sign in • Receiving any deliveries safely and notifying the correct person • Answering the telephone during busy periods and taking messages • Maintaining an attractive, welcoming and tidy reception area • Assisting people with disabilities to access information about upcoming events • During quiet periods, helping with general building tidying tasks What do I need? To be a volunteer you need to have • Ability to volunteer independently whilst staff members may be busy • Confidence to answer the door and permit visitors in a vigilant manner • Being approachable and friendly, building a rapport with visitors • Good communication skills • Accepting of others who might be different to you and the ability to work as part of a diverse team • A willingness to learn and work within guidelines set out by Midland Mencap • Honesty, integrity and trustworthy • Good time management skills, reliability • Aged 18+ • An enhanced DBS check will be required by all successful applicants. When and where do you need me? Our community centre is open Monday – Friday 9.30am – 3.30pm We also host various events throughout the year! Choose the days suit you.
