Description
FD Capital is working with a long-established, family-owned manufacturer of handcrafted musical instruments to appoint a Fractional CFO. The business trades internationally, operates across multiple currencies, and supports a wider family group with interests spanning business operations, property projects and loan obligations. This is not a reporting-only engagement. Our client wants a genuine strategic partner — someone who can bring order, visibility and forward planning to a business with irregular cash flow patterns typical of high-value, low-volume manufacturing, and who understands how family and business finances interact. The Role Working directly with the director, you will: Build robust financial systems, controls and reporting from a relatively informal base Own cash flow forecasting and management — the central challenge in a business with lumpy, international revenue Establish budgeting and regular management reporting Shape longer-term financial strategy across the business, property projects and loan structures Manage multi-currency exposure and liaise with US tax advisers on cross-border matters Mentor a young, ambitious director keen to build their own financial management capability, embedding best-practice systems and reporting that outlast the engagementAbout You Qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA) with prior CFO or FD experience in SME or owner-managed businesses Demonstrable experience with family-owned businesses and the interplay between business and personal/family finances — this is a genuine requirement, not a nice-to-have Strong on cash flow management in businesses with irregular income Comfortable with multi-currency operations; exposure to US tax matters (or working alongside US advisers) a distinct advantage A natural mentor — patient, hands-on and willing to build capability in the leadership team, not just deliver outputsDetails Engagement: Fractional, with scope to flex as the business grows Location: Fully remote. The business has bases in London and Gloucestershire, so candidates local to either would be welcome — but skills, experience and rate matter more than postcode Rate: Competitive day rate, dependent on experience
