Foundation Phase Educator: Locum (Maternity Cover) Fixed-Term Appointment – Commencing 1 September 2026 Dalpark Independent School is seeking a dedicated, values-driven, Christian Foundation Phase Educator to join our team on a fixed-term locum basis, covering a staff member during maternity leave. We are looking for an educator who can provide continuity and stability for our youngest learners while delivering excellent CAPS- and IEB-aligned education. The successful candidate will nurture a love for learning in the Foundation Phase, laying strong foundations in literacy, numeracy, and life skills. Beyond classroom teaching, the candidate will intentionally weave Christian principles into daily lessons, helping learners grow as confident, curious, and caring young people. Appointment Details • Fixed-term locum appointment covering maternity leave. • Commencement on 1 September 2026, with the duration confirmed on appointment. • A smooth handover and clear continuity of teaching, assessment, and classroom routines will be expected. Foundation Phase Locum Responsibilities Instructional Leadership • Present effective CAPS- and IEB-aligned Foundation Phase lessons in literacy, numeracy, and life skills. • Apply age-appropriate, play-based and structured teaching strategies to promote early learner success. Assessment and Support • Continue existing assessment practices and maintain accurate records for a seamless handover on the educator’s return. • Offer constructive feedback and targeted support for each learner’s progress. Classroom and Behaviour Management • Maintain a warm, safe, inclusive and respectful classroom with clear, consistent routines. • Foster responsibility, collaboration, and resilience among young learners. Professional and Parent Communication • Maintain transparent, reassuring communication with parents and staff regarding learner growth during the cover period. • Attend school functions, meetings, and professional development sessions. Continuity and Handover • Follow the existing educator’s planning and programmes to ensure minimal disruption to learners. • Prepare a clear handover on conclusion of the locum period. Foundation Phase Locum Requirements • Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) in Foundation Phase, or a relevant degree plus PGCE (or equivalent). • SACE registration and valid police clearance. • Strong knowledge of CAPS and IEB standards for the Foundation Phase. • Excellent planning, facilitation, and early-years learner support skills. • Availability for the full duration of the fixed-term maternity cover. • Willingness to be actively involved in the broader school community for the period of appointment.
