Description
• Welding shipbuilding-grade structural steel across a range of plate thicknesses • Performing welding primarily using Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW or flux core), with Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW or MIG) and Manual Metal Arc Welding (MMAW or stick) used for supporting activities • Welding in all positions including flat, horizontal, vertical-up and overhead positions • Completing single-sided welds using ceramic backing within hull units, tanks, double bottoms and confined spaces • Working in accordance with approved Welding Procedure Specifications and applicable Defence quality requirements • Producing welds that meet visual inspection and non-destructive testing requirements which may include ultrasonic, magnetic particle and radiographic testing • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings, welding symbols and applicable specifications • Maintaining welding tools, equipment and materials in good working order • Working safely in confined spaces and at heights while wearing the required PPE • Collaborating with production supervisors, trades trainers and other team members to achieve programme milestones • Contributing to continuous improvement across the production environment
