Savanna, Sales
Hello, my name is Savanna. I joined Societe Generale in 2023 for my end-of-studies internship as a Sales Assistant. Then, I had the opportunity to be hired on a fixed-term contract, then on a permanent contract. I’m now Prime Services & Clearing Sales, responsible for French-speaking Switzerland and supporting Southern Europe.
The job of Sales on the trading floor involves being the interface between clients—banks, companies, funds—and the trading or support teams. The Sales offers to its clients financial services or products tailored to their needs and ensures the follow-up of operations.
The role of Sales is both commercial, relational, and technical. It requires a good knowledge of financial markets and banking products.
And I’m working on an activity that operates in two phases and covers two services: execution and clearing. The execution part is handled by the trading teams, while my team mainly handles with clearing.
And the clearing is a mechanism that reduces or eliminates risks between two counterparties exchanging financial products. The transaction is transferred to a central counterparty which replaces the initial counterparty, followed by a process of exchanging security deposits.
This job is extremely cross-functional. It requires juggling client requests, operational constraints, market changes, and regulatory challenges. In the end, every day is different.
My team operates across several European countries, which means we cover several markets with local specificities. Even though everyone is responsible for their own area, we regularly share our experiences, our best practices, and key information.
It’s a job where interpersonal skills are essential. Understanding clients’ needs to build a relationship of trust is key. But you also need to spot opportunities and find a way to convince—both to strengthen relationships with existing clients and to conquer new ones. That’s what makes our job so rich and complex.
You should be...
You're fluent in english
Perseverance when facing difficulties
Ability to understand customer needs
In-depth technical knowledge of products
5 years' higher education in finance, engineering or business
