Description
The External Communications Manager leads FamilyLife’s external communications, ensuring the organization’s message is clear, consistent, and mission-aligned across all public-facing channels.
This role manages media relations, oversees public messaging, and provides strategic counsel on reputation management. The manager supervises the Partnership Integrity Coordinator to proactively safeguard FamilyLife’s credibility and public perception. Working closely with the Executive Director of Communications, this role ensures that all external communication reflects FamilyLife’s mission, values, and biblical foundation.
Job Duties
• Develop and implement FamilyLife’s external communications strategy to advance mission, strengthen brand credibility, and support organizational priorities.
• Manage media relations, including press inquiries, interviews, and proactive engagement with journalists and outlets.
• Oversee creation and delivery of clear, consistent messaging for external audiences, including donors, partners, and the general public.
• Supervise the Partnership Integrity Coordinator, ensuring effective research and reporting on the reputational optics of FamilyLife’s guests, contributors, and partners.
• Integrate partnership risk assessments into external communications planning and leadership decision-making.
• Provide strategic counsel to the Executive Director of Communications and senior leaders on high- visibility, sensitive, or time-critical matters.
• Collaborate with Development, Marketing, and Global teams to ensure consistency across all public-facing communications.
• Build and maintain relationships with media outlets, partners, and key stakeholders to advance the mission and visibility of FamilyLife.
• Monitor cultural, social, and media trends to anticipate opportunities and manage risks.
