Description
Are you an HBO/University student and passionate about electrical engineering? Do you want to apply your knowledge to optimize high-tech measurement instruments? Then this internship might be the perfect opportunity for you! About Avantes Avantes is a leading innovator in fiber-optic spectroscopy, with over 30 years of experience developing cutting-edge spectrometers, light sources, fiber optics, software, and accessories. Our technology enables spectroscopy and material characterization in various industries, supporting scientific and industrial advancements. We achieve this through a service-oriented mindset, encouraging and motivating each other with a professional and constructive attitude. We envision a future where our advanced optical solutions serve as catalysts for driving innovations that enhance the quality of life and contribute to a thriving, sustainable society. Curious to discover how our products can be implemented in the field? Check out this video! Assignment Printed Circuit Board (PCB) design is a critical step in the development of electronic systems. Traditional PCB design workflows rely heavily on manual engineering work, iterative simulations, and reviews, which can be time-consuming and resource intensive. Recently, AI-driven tools have emerged that promise to automate or support schematic design, component selection, routing, signal integrity optimization, and documentation. However, the practical impact of these tools on real engineering workflows is not yet fully understood. This internship focuses on studying how AI tools can be integrated into the PCB design workflow and evaluating their impact on development time, design quality, and engineering efficiency. Objective The primary goal of this internship is to evaluate AI-based tools for electronic design and determine their potential to shorten PCB development cycles. Key objectives include: • Identifying and evaluating AI tools suitable for PCB schematic and layout design • Selecting one or more tools that can be integrated into the company’s design workflow • Quantifying the impact of AI tools on development time, design iterations, and engineering productivity • Providing recommendations for future adoption of AI-assisted PCB design workflows Scope of Assignment: During this internship, you will: • Conduct a literature and market review of AI tools for electronics design (e.g., AI-assisted EDA tools, generative PCB design, AI copilots for engineering) • Analyze current PCB design workflows and identify bottlenecks in the development process • Select and evaluate candidate AI tools for: • Schematic capture • Component selection and BOM generation • PCB layout and routing • Signal integrity and power integrity analysis • Design rule checking and documentation • Perform case studies or pilot projects using AI tools on example PCB designs • Compare AI-assisted workflows with traditional workflows in terms of: • Development time • Number of design iterations • Error rates and design quality • Engineer productivity • Develop metrics and KPIs to quantify the impact of AI on PCB development • Provide a final recommendation and implementation roadmap for adopting AI tools in PCB design Deliverables At the end of the internship, you are expected to deliver: • A report summarizing evaluated AI tools and selection criteria • A recommended AI tool (or toolchain) for PCB design • Quantitative analysis of development time reduction and efficiency gains • Guidelines for integrating the selected tool into the engineering workflow • A presentation of results to the engineering and management teams We are looking for: We are looking for an enthusiastic HBO or WO student with a background in: • Electrical Engineering / Electronics Engineering • Or a related technical field You should have interest or experience in: • PCB design tool (Altium) • Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning (basic knowledge is sufficient) • Software tools and scripting (Python, MATLAB, etc. is a plus) We offer: • A good compensation per month • Travel reimbursement of €0,23 per km (when traveling by car) • Informal work atmosphere, short lines of communication • Working in a high-tech environment Interested? Are you an HBO/university student and excited about this opportunity? Fill out the form below, or send an email to [email protected] and join us in optimizing spectroscopy technology!
