Working pattern: Full-time, site-based
An established joint venture delivering a major infrastructure project in Birmingham is looking to appoint an experienced Environmental Manager to support its construction operations.
This is a key site-based position responsible for managing environmental compliance, providing technical guidance and ensuring environmental requirements are fully integrated across design, construction activities and the wider project programme.
Key responsibilities:
• Provide environmental advice and support to construction, design and delivery teams.
• Manage, challenge and assure compliance with environmental commitments, legal requirements, consents and project controls.
• Ensure environmental requirements and mitigation measures are embedded within construction methodologies, designs and programmes.
• Coordinate environmental activity across areas including ecology, landscape, heritage, water, flood risk, waste, carbon, contaminated land, noise and vibration, air quality and soils.
• Engage with subcontractors and their environmental representatives to ensure requirements are understood and effectively implemented.
• Lead the preparation and review of site environmental plans, assessments and supporting documentation.
• Monitor environmental performance, identify compliance risks and drive corrective actions.
• Investigate environmental incidents and non-conformances, ensuring lessons learned are shared across the project.
• Work closely with consents, assurance, sustainability, design, commercial and health and safety teams.
• Identify environmental training requirements and support the delivery of site-based awareness and training.
• Lead and support members of the environmental team.
• Identify and deliver opportunities for environmental and sustainability improvements throughout construction.
About you:
• Exenstive environmental experience, ideally gained within construction, civil engineering or major infrastructure.
• Experience working on large-scale infrastructure projects, such as rail, highways or other complex linear developments.
• A background with a main contractor, civil engineering consultancy or specialist environmental contractor.
• Strong knowledge of construction environmental management, compliance and assurance.
• Experience managing environmental design, mitigation measures, consents and site controls.
• The confidence to challenge construction methodologies and designs where environmental requirements have not been sufficiently addressed.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with site teams, technical specialists, subcontractors and senior stakeholders.
• A full UK driving licence and willingness to drive project vehicles between sites.
A relevant environmental qualification, professional membership and a valid CSCS card would be advantageous.
