Description
Environmental Health Officer - Housing Enforcement Sussex Coastal Council £50-£55 per hour Initial 6-month contract Are you an experienced Environmental Health Officer looking for your next housing enforcement contract in Sussex? I'm supporting a coastal Local Authority in Sussex that is looking to appoint an experienced officer to manage a varied caseload across private sector housing, property inspections, housing standards and enforcement. The role will involve independently managing cases from the initial complaint and inspection through to informal resolution or formal enforcement action. Key responsibilities: • Carrying out HHSRS inspections within privately rented accommodation. • Identifying and assessing Category 1 and Category 2 hazards. • Investigating complaints relating to disrepair, poor housing conditions and property standards. • Managing a varied caseload of private sector housing enquiries and service requests. • Liaising with landlords, tenants, managing agents and other relevant parties. • Providing advice and guidance to landlords to encourage compliance. • Preparing and serving statutory notices when informal action is unsuccessful. • Producing clear inspection reports, case notes and evidence. • Progressing enforcement cases in accordance with the Housing Act 2004 and other relevant legislation. Essential experience: • Strong practical knowledge and experience of HHSRS. • An Environmental Health degree or relevant EHO qualification would be desirable. • Applications are also welcomed from candidates without an Environmental Health degree, provided they have a minimum of 10 years' housing enforcement experience. • Previous experience managing a varied housing enforcement caseload. • The ability to independently progress cases from inspection through to formal action. • Previous Local Authority experience is highly desirable. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Environmental Health Officer or housing enforcement professional to join a supportive coastal council on an initial 6-month contract with hybrid working arrangements.
