Description
Role Overview Energy Project Estimators apply construction cost estimation, solar design, and proposal development expertise to evaluate AI-generated outputs and produce professional data products that reflect real-world energy project workflows. This role involves performing expert-level estimation and documentation tasks on a flexible, hourly contract basis, supporting research-oriented projects while continuing other professional commitments.
Key Responsibilities
• Evaluate AI-generated content related to energy projects, providing detailed feedback to improve model understanding of estimation workflows and practices.
• Independently produce expert analytical deliverables and structured data outputs using the tools and processes you use in professional practice.
• Complete real work tasks in a project format, examples include building price forecast models and developing power purchase agreement documentation.
• Perform architectural and engineering plan reviews to produce build or remodel cost estimates.
• Generate solar installation customer proposals and associated documentation.
Qualifications
• Minimum 2 years of professional experience in energy project estimation or solar design in roles such as Construction Cost Estimator, Solar Project Estimator, Solar Sales Engineer / Solar Designer, or equivalent energy industry positions.
• Bachelor''s degree or higher required.
• Proven ability to work independently and asynchronously, with strong written communication skills and attention to detail.
• Hands-on experience with one or more of the following tools: Bluebeam Revu, RSMeans, Aurora Solar.
• Experience completing workflows such as architectural and engineering plan review for cost estimation, and solar installation customer proposal generation.
Work Terms
• Engagement type: hourly contract work, independent contractor style.
• Fully remote, with a flexible, asynchronous schedule and no minimum hour requirement.
• Typical contributor commitment when active on a project is approximately 5, 20 hours per week.
• This is an ongoing, project-based engagement that can be done alongside research, teaching, postdoctoral work, or industry employment.
• Placement on specific projects depends on current project needs. Contributors may be considered for future projects as they become available.
Compensation
• Up to $80/hr (depending on the project)
Eligibility
• F-1 students with eligible CPT or OPT work authorization may qualify to participate. Consult your Designated School Official to confirm whether this arrangement meets your school’s CPT requirements. If your school requires enrollment in a CPT course, this project-based contract may not satisfy that condition.
• STEM OPT is not supported for participation.
