Description
DoorDash Labs is the innovation hub developing robotics and automation solutions for last-mile logistics. This Senior/Staff Embedded Software Engineer role focuses on leading firmware development and board bring-up for ARM-based microcontroller platforms that power DoorDash robotics products, including motion control, sensor integration, communications, and safety-critical systems.
What You'll Do
• Own firmware bring-up and integration for new ARM-based embedded platforms, including ARM Cortex-M series microcontrollers
• Develop and maintain bare-metal firmware and RTOS-based applications for robotic subsystems including motor control, sensors, telemetry, and power management
• Write and maintain robust, well-documented C/C++ code for embedded targets following firmware design patterns
• Collaborate with electrical engineering teams on hardware bring-up, schematic review, system integration, and board-level debugging
• Lead system bring-up, validation, and debug activities while contributing to firmware safety, reliability, and system-level robustness
What You Need
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field
• 8+ years of hands-on embedded systems development experience
• Deep expertise in bare-metal programming on ARM microcontrollers
• Strong proficiency in C/C++ for embedded targets and firmware design patterns
• Experience with hardware bring-up and low-level debugging on custom circuit boards
• Solid understanding of digital electronics and embedded communication buses (I2C, SPI, UART, CAN)
• Strong system-level thinking with ability to work independently and take full ownership across the development cycle
Nice to Have
• Experience with RTOS platforms such as FreeRTOS or Zephyr, or Embedded Linux on constrained systems
• Familiarity with motor control, power systems, or battery management in robotics or automotive applications
• Experience working closely with hardware teams, reading schematics, and performing board-level debugging
• Familiarity with safety-critical systems, watchdogs, and fault-handling mechanisms
• Experience in fast-paced, high-ownership engineering environments such as startups or advanced R&D teams
Base salary $159,800–$235,000 USD, plus equity grants.
