Assignment End-of-life tyres (ELTs) represent a significant environmental challenge but also a valuable resource for material recovery. Efficient recycling requires: • Reliable identification of elemental composition • Detection of additives (Zn, Si, S, Ca, Mg, Al, etc.) • Monitoring of fillers (silica, carbon black) • Quality control of recycled rubber fractions Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) offers: • Rapid multi-element detection • Minimal sample preparation • Potential for inline industrial monitoring • Capability to analyze solid, heterogeneous materials However, tyre materials are complex composites consisting of: • Natural and synthetic rubber • Carbon black • Silica fillers • ZnO and sulfur curing systems • Metallic reinforcements • Various inorganic additives To implement LIBS in recycling processes, a quantitative correlation must be established between: • Well-defined model compounds • Real heterogeneous tyre samples Objective To develop and validate a LIBS-based analytical method capable of: • Identifying key elements in tyre materials • Establishing calibration curves using model compounds • Correlating LIBS signals between model systems and real tyre samples • Assessing feasibility for recycling process monitoring We are looking for: We are looking for an enthusiastic HBO or WO student with a background in: • Sustainable Energy technology • Applied Physics • Chemical Science & Engineering We offer: • A good compensation per month • Travel reimbursement of €0,23 per km (when traveling by car) • Informal work atmosphere, short lines of communication • Working in a high-tech environment Interested?
