You would have around a year working alongside them before fully taking the reins. That kind of handover is rare, and it makes a real difference. Key Responsibilities • Lead and continuously improve EHS policies, procedures, and programmes in line with Belgian regulations and corporate global standards • Take part in daily production meetings where safety is always on the agenda • Coordinate monthly drills, including spill drills, across different production teams on a rotating basis • Carry out and oversee risk assessments, site audits, and incident investigations, and make sure follow-up actions are completed • Manage the ISO 14001 environmental management system together with the Quality Manager, including internal and external audits and management reviews • Run compliance programmes for LOTO, Confined Space, Hazard Communication, Hot Work, Respiratory Protection, and related areas • Make sure hazardous and non-hazardous waste is handled and reported correctly • Lead the annual legal declarations and environmental reporting at the start of each year • Review new chemicals, equipment, and processes before they are introduced to site • Develop and monitor EHS KPIs that align with the corporate direction and report on performance regularly • Contribute to global EHS strategy and support local safety committees • Lead active capital safety projects, including a sprinkler system installation and ongoing site security improvements • Work with external regulatory bodies, agencies, and consultants to keep permits and compliance in order • Stay visible on the plant floor and support the team day to day • Travel occasionally to the group’s headquarters in the US and to other regional sites when needed Key Requirements • Level 1 Prevention Advisor certification strong preferred; Level 2 is accepted and the company could offer Level 1 Education as additional benefit. • Master’s or Engineer-level qualification , preferably in chemistry, chemical engineering, or a related technical field • At least 3 to 5 years of EHS management experience in chemical manufacturing or a similar process industry • Solid hands-on experience in occupational safety, process safety, and environmental compliance • Good practical knowledge of risk assessment and risk analysis • Experience with ISO 14001 ; ISO 45001 knowledge is a bonus • Background in EHS auditing and incident investigation • Experience working within a global EHS organisation and using a standardised EHS management system • Comfortable using digital tools for EHS reporting and data management • Fluent in both French and English , written and spoken; French is the main language on site • Willing to travel internationally from time to time, including to the US Additional Information The site’s safety record is good, but that does not mean the work is done. There are real challenges ahead: completing ISO 14001 certification, developing a Behaviour-Based Safety programme, managing compliance around suppression equipment, and delivering capital projects. These are meaningful priorities that will shape the first year and give the incoming manager a clear sense of purpose from the start. The team is small and works well together. The management group is collaborative, the workforce is engaged, and while the parent company is American, the day-to-day culture at site level is described as open and down to earth. For candidates based in the cross-border area, particularly French nationals already working in Belgium, Aubange is very accessible. The package reflects the level of the role: a base salary of around €100,000, a 10% annual bonus, a company car, meal vouchers, a 13th month salary, and complementary insurance.
