The Director of Methodist Children’s Learning Center of Athens (MCLC) is a practicing Christian and qualified educator, who leads, inspires, guides, manages, and communicates easily with staff, students, parents, church staff and church members.
The Director will lead the school by adhering to its mission. Promote and encourage participation in First UMC activities among MCLC staff and families. Consistently serve as a role model in behavior, attitude, and Christian journey. Christ-centered behavior at all times, i.e., treating people with dignity, respect, compassion and integrity. Follow and maintain license/ accreditation requirements of the Texas Department of Children and Families for the school and staff. Follow national standards in early childhood education. Follow the pursuit of the Rising Star accreditation. Follow the school structure, policies, and procedures as set forth by the MCLC board. Have knowledge and experience with Child Care Services (CCS). Prepare reports for and present reports at MCLC Monthly board meetings. Plan, implement, coordinate, and oversee school operations. Prepare, implement, and manage the budget along with the First UMC Finance Committee. Select and implement curriculum materials. Oversee instruction. Manage all personnel and personnel matters. Conduct regular staff meetings and planning sessions. Establish and maintain a positive relationship with school families. Meet new families and provide school visits. Have a business background in order to be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the school. Possess strong organizational and communication skills. Attend meetings and conferences to keep abreast of changes in the field. Work with MCLC to maintain facilities to meet Department of Children and Families’ standards. Regular involvement in staff appropriate meetings, activities, ministries and events at First UMC.
The Director must be a member of a Christian Church. Be involved in activities/ ministries of First UMC Athens through prayers, presence, spiritual gifts, and talents. Be able to articulate the Christian faith in terms of a child’s experience and development. Be able to communicate the Christian faith to families of the school. The Director must possess (or will have by the end of 6 months from hire date) a Director’s Certificate recognized by the state of Texas. Possess a CDA or preferably a Bachelor’s Degree in elementary or early childhood education or related field or equivalent. Have five or more years’ experience in early childhood education. Keep Director’s Certificate current through annual continuing education. CPR and First Aid certifications or willing to obtain within 6 months of employment. Maintain all professional certifications as required by the State of Texas through continuing education hours.
