Assignment
Single-beam spectrometers measure signal intensity from one optical path. However, they are sensitive to:
• Source intensity fluctuations
• Plasma instability (LIBS)
• Laser power drift
• Detector sensitivity changes
• Environmental variations
A dual-beam spectrometer introduces a reference channel alongside the sample channel, enabling:
• Real-time intensity normalization
• Improved quantitative stability
• Drift compensation
• Higher signal reproducibility
• Reduced noise from source fluctuations
Dual-beam systems are widely used in absorption spectroscopy but are less common in emission spectroscopy or LIBS setups. Evaluating the feasibility and performance benefits in advanced spectroscopy systems is therefore of strong technical interest.
Objectives
• Investigate different dual-beam spectrometer architectures
• Evaluate technical feasibility for laboratory or industrial integration
• Design a conceptual prototype
• Assess performance improvements compared to single-beam systems
