Position Overview:
The Distribution Supervisor is a key leader overseeing warehousing, materials management, receivals & shipments, and distribution processes. This role supervises a team of material handlers, ensuring materials are received and handled correctly, they are efficiently stored, and pre-positioned for production lines; finished products stored and/or shipped in a timely and adequate manner, either to the warehouse, to co-packing or to customers.
Job Responsibilities:
• Supervise materials management processes, from receival to pre-positioning ensuring efficient handling and availability of materials to support uninterrupted production.
• Supervise shipping operations, coordinating with the Distribution Leader to ensure receivals and on-time deliveries, outbound shipping meeting customers' needs and expectations, while optimizing transportation costs and maintaining key performance indicators (KPIs)
• Supervise material handlers, providing guidance, coaching, and performance feedback to ensure a high-performing and motivated workforce. Ensure the team acts with a Safety-First mindset by following PPE, GMP and HAACP guidelines.
• Assist with the development of distribution processes, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and best practices to improve efficiency, reduce lead times, and minimize errors in material handling, order prepping & picking, and shipping.
• Utlilize WMS system to maintain inventory control measures to track materials and finished goods, ensure accurate counts, and minimize discrepancies, contributing to cost savings and operational efficiency.
• Collaborate with planning, production, procurement, logistics and warehousing, and other departments to ensure seamless coordination and alignment of distribution activities that impact production operations.
• Prioritize safety in distribution activities, ensuring compliance with industry regulations, codes, and standards to maintain a safe working environment.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
• Strong understanding of materials management, shipping processes, and distribution best practices. Customer service knowledge/experience is a plus.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment, providing excellent service to internal and external partners.
• Understanding of food safety regulations (FDA, HACCP, etc.) and QA processes.
• Proficient with WMS
• Passion for operational excellence, safety, and fostering a collaborative and efficient work environment.
Education & Experience:
• High School diploma/GED, preferred associates and/or bachelor's degree in supply chain management, Logistics, or a related field,
• 3+years proven experience in distribution supervision, preferably in the food manufacturing industry.
• Experience in leading a team of material handlers, fostering collaboration and professional growth.
• Forklift and pallet jack experience
Work Environment:
Exposure to both the office setting and food manufacturing facility.
• Significant amount of time working at a computer station
• Several visits to various areas of the manufacturing floor
• Must wear required PPE while in all manufacturing areas.
• Moving parts and machinery are present in the plant.
Physical demands:
• Frequent sitting, standing, or walking.
• Occasional ability to lift up to 50lbs.
• Ability to physically perform functions of repetitive motion, grasping, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, crouching, kneeling, stooping, balancing, and climbing.
• Noise levels will vary, higher noise levels exist while in the plant operations areas.
