Description
About the Company
Our client is one of the premier general contractors in the Midwest and consistently recognized as one of the nation's top builders. The company has built a reputation for delivering complex commercial construction projects through a culture centered on trust, collaboration, innovation, and doing the right thing. With approximately 500 employees, an impressive level of repeat business, and a people-first culture, the company continues to invest in both its employees and its clients.
This is a rare opportunity to join an organization that is fully committed to elevating quality across the enterprise. Executive leadership has made quality a strategic priority and is looking for a leader who will build a best-in-class program that enhances project delivery while strengthening relationships throughout the organization.
About the Position
The Director of Quality will lead the development and implementation of the company's enterprise-wide quality program. Rather than inheriting a mature system, you'll have the opportunity to shape the vision, establish meaningful performance metrics, build a high-performing quality team, and create processes that support operational excellence across every project.
This is not a traditional quality assurance role focused on policing jobsites. The ideal leader approaches quality with a builder's mindset —someone who earns trust, develops relationships, coaches project teams, and helps operations succeed. The company is looking for a collaborative partner who improves outcomes through influence, education, and practical problem solving, not by carrying a clipboard looking for deficiencies.
Working closely with executive leadership, operations, project management, and field teams, you will help create a culture where quality is embedded into every phase of project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop and execute the company's long-term quality strategy across all operations.
• Build and continuously improve an enterprise-wide Quality Management Program.
• Establish meaningful quality metrics, reporting dashboards, and performance benchmarks.
• Recruit, mentor, and develop a high-performing quality team as the program grows.
• Partner with project executives, project managers, superintendents, and field personnel to proactively improve project outcomes.
• Create standardized quality processes that are practical, scalable, and embraced by operations.
• Promote a culture focused on prevention rather than inspection.
• Analyze quality trends, warranty issues, rework, and lessons learned to drive continuous improvement.
• Develop training programs that reinforce quality expectations throughout the organization.
• Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership on quality initiatives and organizational performance.
• Foster collaboration across departments while strengthening relationships with clients, design partners, and trade contractors.
Requirements
• 10+ years of progressive commercial construction experience.
• Leadership experience in quality, operations, project management, field leadership, or a related construction discipline.
• Strong understanding of commercial construction means, methods, sequencing, and project delivery.
• Experience developing or enhancing quality management systems and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Proven ability to influence project teams through collaboration rather than enforcement.
• Demonstrated success building relationships across all levels of an organization.
• Strong communication and presentation skills.
• Experience leading organizational change and implementing measurable process improvements.
• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related discipline preferred.
What They're Looking For
• A builder first and a quality leader second.
• Someone who coaches rather than polices.
• A collaborative leader who earns trust quickly.
• A strategic thinker who is equally comfortable in the field and the boardroom.
• An individual excited by the opportunity to build something lasting rather than simply maintain an existing program.
• A leader who values accountability, continuous improvement, and developing others.
Benefits
• Base salary of $150,000–$175,000
• Performance-based annual bonus
• Vehicle allowance
• Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance
• 401(k) with company match
• Paid vacation and holidays
• Professional development opportunities
• Long-term career growth with one of the nation's most respected builders
• The unique opportunity to design and lead an enterprise-wide quality program with full executive support
