Position Overview
The Director of Finance provides leadership and oversight for the Finance function and supports the organization's financial, operational, and strategic objectives. Reporting to the CFO, this role is responsible for financial reporting, financial planning and analysis, budgeting, treasury, financial operations, and enterprise finance initiatives. The Director partners closely with executive leadership and stakeholders across the organization to strengthen financial stewardship, support informed decision-making, advance organizational performance, and develop a high-performing Finance team within a regulated insurance environment.
Essential Functions
Strategic Finance Leadership & Enterprise Partnership
Partner with the CFO and leadership team to advance the organization’s financial objectives, strategic initiatives, and operational priorities.
Serve as a trusted advisor by providing financial insight, analysis, and recommendations that support enterprise decision-making and long-term business success.
Promote sound financial stewardship, accountability, and alignment with organizational goals while helping drive a high-performing Finance function.
Partner with business leaders, Information Technology, and Data & Analytics teams to advance reporting capabilities, improve business processes, and support enterprise transformation initiatives.
Lead and develop finance leaders while fostering a high-performing culture that promotes accountability, collaboration, employee engagement, professional growth, and succession readiness.
Financial Reporting, Compliance & Governance
Provide leadership and oversight of financial reporting, audit, regulatory compliance, and governance activities, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and regulatory expectations.
Establish and maintain an effective framework of accounting policies, internal controls, and financial governance practices that support the organization's financial strength and risk management objectives.
Oversee regulatory reporting, reinsurance administration, and related compliance activities while providing direction and support to finance leadership responsible for day-to-day execution.
Partner with external actuaries, auditors, regulators, and other stakeholders to support financial reporting, reserve analyses, examinations, and enterprise financial objectives.
Monitor emerging accounting, regulatory, and industry developments and coordinate appropriate organizational actions.
Maintain relationships with auditors, regulators, actuaries, and other external stakeholders in support of the organization's financial and compliance objectives.
Financial Planning & Performance Management
Provide leadership and oversight of budgeting, forecasting, expense management, and financial performance processes.
Establish performance measures, reporting frameworks, and financial management practices that support strategic decision-making and organizational accountability.
Partner with executive management and business leaders to evaluate financial performance, resource allocation, and opportunities to improve efficiency and business results.
Guide the development of financial analyses, forecasts, and business cases used to evaluate strategic initiatives and enterprise priorities.
Promote disciplined financial planning and performance management practices that support the organization's long-term financial strength and strategic objectives.
Treasury, Capital & Financial Operations
Provide leadership and oversight of treasury operations, cash management, banking relationships, investment administration, and other core financial activities.
Support capital management, investment oversight, and related financial activities that contribute to the organization’s long-term financial strength and stability.
