Description The Direct Support Professional (DSP) is responsible for providing compassionate, hands-on support to individuals with developmental or intellectual disabilities or illnesses, as well as guests experiencing homelessness. This role fosters an environment of dignity and respect while helping clients achieve greater independence and quality of life. ________________________________________ Essential Functions Client Support • Provide warm, welcoming, person-centered care based on individual assessments. • Assist clients with daily personal tasks, including bathing, dressing, and hygiene needs. • Help clients complete housekeeping tasks such as vacuuming, washing dishes, and tidying living areas. • Shop for groceries and prepare meals that meet specific dietary needs. • Teach and encourage clients to complete tasks independently to promote self-sufficiency. • Help plan and organize client appointments and daily schedules. • Encourage engagement in social networks and community activities. Facility & Safety • Perform daily check-ins and provide linens and assistance with belongings. • Conduct regular walk-throughs to ensure safety and adherence to policies. • Maintain a clean, organized work areas/homes; wipe down counters, cots, and shared surfaces. • Maintain organized stock of office, cleaning, and hygiene supplies; distribute as needed. Communication & Documentation • Record and document any incidents or events involving client well-being or safety. • Maintain complete, organized client files and prepare incident or other required reports. • Write legibly and communicate effectively with team members about client transitions or needs. • Uphold Magdala House policies and procedures, including all state and governing agency requirements. ________________________________________ Additional Responsibilities • Provide guests with information and referrals and document interactions. • Perform other duties as required to support clients and ensure smooth program operations. Requirements Skills & Qualifications • Valid driver’s license required. If using a personal vehicle to transport clients, must have proof of current auto insurance. • Patience, compassion, and integrity to ensure clients feel safe and respected. • Ability to exercise sound judgment, especially in crisis or emergency situations. • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow protocols precisely. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. • Physical stamina to assist with lifting or turning clients and ability to lift/carry up to 20 pounds. • Manual dexterity to operate computer systems and complete documentation. _______________________________________ Additional Attributes • Commitment to a solution-focused, person-centered approach. • Ability to remain calm and clear-headed in stressful situations. • Comfortable collaborating with multiple departments and professionals. ________________________________________ *Full-time, Part-time (weekends) & Floater positions available Benefits (Full-Time Positions) • Health, Dental, Vision, and Life Insurance • Long-term Disability Insurance Requirements • CNAs - $22.00 per hour • Experienced, Non Degree - High School Diploma / GED /Equivalent - $20.00 per hour • Full coverage auto insurance • Class E Driver's License - Company will reimburse cost where necessary. • Experience working with Blind and Non-Verbal, a plus.
