Description
Scope of Work: • South Carolina licensed, in good standing with the state's Dental Board. • Provide dental services at SCDJJ the dental clinic in the secure facilities within the Columbia, South Carolina area, during normal weekday hours. We offer flexibility with the days and times, as long as it is Monday-Friday (8:00 am-5:00 pm ET) up to 40 hours per week. The minimum hours we need the candidate to work is 24 hours per week. • Once the schedule is established, any deviation to the hours will be coordinated in advance with the SCDJJ Associate Deputy Director of Health Services. • Provide the following dental services during clinic: dental exams, oral hygiene instruction, cleanings, x-rays which include bitewing, periapical, and panoramic films, dental restorations, simple extractions, and other basic dental procedures not requiring sedation or general anesthesia. • The Contractor will utilize SCDJJ's Electronic Health Record system to document all patient encounters. • The SCDJJ dental staff or Associate Deputy of Health Services must be notified at least two (2) hours prior to services if you are unable to provide dental services. • Respond to calls from SCDJJ nursing and medical staff to provide on-call after-hours” coverage, by phone, for dental emergencies as part of comprehensive services. Contractor is not expected to see youth face to face beyond the normal weekday hours. • This does not occur often as emergencies are sent to the emergency room. Time is billed in 15-minute increments. • Refer services such as root canals, crowns, maxillofacial reconstruction, mandibular fracture reconstruction, cosmetic/experimental procedures, orthodontic appliances, partial plate replacement, or dentures to external specialty dental providers. • Contract dentist shall assist with the identification of external professional dental specialists to perform these services. • Perform oral exams and diagnose dental concerns at the Juvenile Detention Complex approximately 3 miles from the Willow Lane Dental Clinic. • Serve on the client and attend quarterly SCDJJ Medical Staff meetings. Time spent in attendance for these meetings is billable up to 1.5 hours. • Develop, review and update policies, standard operating procedures, and protocols for dental services to bring the agency in compliance with agency, National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC), American Correctional Association (ACA), state and federal policy and regulations. Policies regarding supplies, contamination, etc., will be followed in compliance with ADA and CDC practices. • Drafts of the work performed on policies, protocols or operating procedures will be submitted monthly (or as applicable) to SCDJJ Associate Deputy Director of Health Services. • Complete initial training and orientation specific to the correctional environment. • Maintain the amount of liability insurance coverage required by South Carolina law for the services. • Dentist will be paid for the time worked, i.e. time spent in patient care, attending the quarterly Medical Staff meeting, SCDJJ mandated training, orientation and writing/updating SOPs/policies. • Patient care is defined as treating patients in the dental clinic, performing exams, x-rays, writing referrals along with identifying dental specialists to perform the needed service(s), participating in case conferences discussing recommendations for youth. • Payment is calculated from timecards submitted and approved at the end of each week. The timecard must be initialed by the dental assistant, dental hygienist, Associate Deputy Director of Health Services, Director of Nursing or HR Liaison.
