We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Dental Hygienist to join our team of healthcare professionals. In this role, you will provide high-quality preventive and therapeutic dental care while supporting patients in achieving and maintaining optimal oral health.
Working under the general supervision of a dentist, the Dental Hygienist plays a critical role in patient education, periodontal therapy, and early detection of oral health concerns. The ideal candidate is patient-focused, detail-oriented, and committed to delivering excellent care in a collaborative clinical environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide direct patient care and dental hygiene services within the scope of licensure
• Review and document patient medical and dental histories
• Perform patient screenings, including dental and periodontal charting
• Assess oral health conditions and identify signs of periodontal disease, gum recession, oral lesions, and other abnormalities
• Deliver preventive and therapeutic treatments including:
• Prophylaxis (cleanings)
• Periodontal scaling and root planing
• Debridement
• Supra and subgingival scaling and curettage
• Fluoride treatments
• Application of protective sealants
• Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices, including brushing, flossing, nutrition, and preventive care
• Address patient questions and concerns while building positive patient relationships
• Assist in documenting lab procedures and ensuring follow-up on results
• Maintain accurate patient records and documentation
• Prepare and disinfect treatment rooms between patients
• Sterilize instruments and maintain proper infection control standards
• Monitor and restock dental supplies and notify supervisors when items need to be reordered
• Participate in required meetings, training sessions, and committee activities
• Assist with community outreach activities as assigned
• Support team members and assist with clinic operations as needed

Qualifications
Education & Licensure
• Graduate of an accredited Dental Hygiene program (minimum Associate Degree)
• Current Dental Hygienist license in the State of Louisiana
Experience
• 2 years of dental hygiene experience preferred
Working Environment
This position operates within a multi-site urban medical office practice serving an inner-city community.
The role requires the ability to work in a fast-paced healthcare environment while maintaining professionalism, organization, and strong patient care standards.
Physical Demands
• Ability to stand or sit for extended periods
• Move intermittently throughout the workday
• Perform bending, stooping, and light-to-moderate lifting when stocking supplies
• Maintain visual and auditory awareness sufficient to perform job duties safely
• Operate standard office and clinical equipment including computers, copiers, and fax machines
• Maintain an organized and clean work environment
• Demonstrate flexibility, teamwork, and the ability to manage interruptions in a busy clinical setting
