Scopely is seeking a highly motivated Data Governance Expert to join our Playgami team in Barcelona!

What You’ll Do
This role is for an expert who can build and run an enterprise-scale data governance program for a global EDW, with strong fluency across Security, Compliance, and Legal. You will not be hands-on technical, but you will influence technical teams to implement governance rules and controls, and you will chair a complex, globally distributed Data Governance Council.
Support the execution of Scopely’s data governance strategy for the global data warehouse
Work closely with Security, Privacy, Legal, Compliance, and data teams to translate requirements into clear and actionable policies
Help define and implement governance frameworks such as data classification, PII handling, access control, and data lifecycle management
Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure governance policies are implemented correctly in data platforms
Contribute to access governance processes, including approvals, reviews, and monitoring
Help maintain documentation, decision logs, and governance guidelines to ensure transparency and consistency
Identify risks related to data usage and support mitigation plans with clear tracking
Assist in improving processes, templates, and training materials to increase adoption across teams
Support governance needs for new projects, tools, and integrations, including emerging areas like AI usage
Participate in governance forums and working groups, contributing to decisions and alignment
Contribute to defining data ownership and accountability across datasets
Support the implementation of data classification and sensitivity models
Help ensure appropriate use of sensitive data based on business needs
Assist in defining and applying data lifecycle policies, such as retention and archiving
Collaborate with stakeholders to balance data access, risk, and business value
What We’re Looking For
4 to 7 years of experience in data governance, data management, privacy, compliance, or related areas
Good understanding of data security and privacy concepts, such as PII handling, access control, and auditability
Bachelors in Computer Science or related field
Experience working with data teams to implement policies in real systems
Ability to translate requirements into practical solutions with technical teams
Strong collaboration skills and ability to work across different teams and functions
Pragmatic mindset, you focus on solutions that work in real environments
Clear communication skills, both written and verbal
Comfortable working in fast-paced environments with evolving needs
Full on-site presence in the Barcelona office (5 days per week).
Bonus Points
Experience with modern data platforms such as BigQuery or Snowflake
Familiarity with IAM concepts and BI tools
Exposure to regulated environments or sensitive data domains
Experience working in multi-team or global organizations
