Description
Sony Music Publishing is separate from Sony Music's recorded music business. While Sony Music signs and develops recording artists, Sony Music Publishing signs and represents songwriters and composers, helping maximise the value and use of their compositions. This is the first year with SMP internship opportunities in our programme and we are very excited to be able to offer you the chance to join the Publishing team!
The Data Analytics Intern at Sony Music Publishing (SMP) will work within the A&R Research team which sits inside the UK A&R team. The A&R Research team are responsible for being the wider A&R teams eyes and ears online - leveraging data to give them visibility into the market. Which artists, songs and songwriters are having success today and who are the stars of tomorrow. Using data, the A&R Research team assist with discovery as well as quantifying talent and songs across DSPs, social, radio and more.

What you'll do:
Discover and track growing songs and writers for the team, explore what is causing the growth and the story behind the data
Research available writers and maintain internal records
Develop new methods and metrics to draw insights from existing data sources and investigate emerging data sources
Work on coding projects to analyse and ingest data
Design, execute, and present analytical projects that build the team’s understanding of music trends
Help with administrative needs such as documentation and manual database updates
Who you are:
Essential
Strong analytical and quantitative skills, demonstrated through a degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g. Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, Computer Science or Economics) or through equivalent practical experience, personal projects, competitions, or self-directed learning
Beginner to intermediate in Python and SQL
Ability to provide answers to loosely defined questions and provide actionable insights
Strong communication skills, comfortable relaying insights to both technical and non-technical audience
Nice to Have
Advanced SQL and/or Python
Statistical modelling experience
Music fan and knowledge of the modern music landscape, familiarity with music data
